SUMMARY:Tchaikovsky’s Passion: A Symphony of Longing
LOCATION:Village Church Chapel\, 330 SW Murray Blvd\, Beaverton OR 97005
DESCRIPTION:The 43rd season of the Beaverton Symphony Orchestra begins wit
h a monument of the Romantic period and arguably one of the most emotional
ly powerful works of orchestral writing ever penned to paper. Tchaikovsky
’s Pathétique—his sixth and final symphony—is suffused with passion
and teeming with lively virtuosity and sweeping lyricism. Those who enjoy
the Romanticism of Tchaikovsky’s other symphonies\, ballets\, and overt
ures will be moved… maybe to tears. While Tchaikovsky is known for weari
ng his heart on his sleeve\, in the Pathétique he throws his heart into t
he crowd\, laying bare every emotion in its unforgettable final moments. T
he concert will also include Bedřich Smetana’s iconic depiction of the
largest river in the Czech Republic\, The Moldau. Painting with sound\, Sm
etana carries us down the river passing through forests\, meadows\, a coun
try wedding\, dancing mermaids\, and ancient ruins overlooking its banks.
Two brief tone poems by Anatol Liadov will kick off this season-opening co
ncert inspired by two legendary figures from Slavic folklore: the fearsome
witch Baba Yaga and the mysterious spirit Kikimora. Join the Beaverton Sy
mphony Orchestra as we open our 43rd season on October 30 and November 1\,
2026\, at Village Church in Beaverton.\n\nhttps://www.allclassical.org/ev
