Lisa: My partner in Sacramento, CA and I (now in Portland) had a community radio show for the year of 2024 in Davis, CA at KDVS 90.3 FM.
We would play goth, industrial, soundtracks, scores, indie rock, and more. Kyle really liked playing music from mostly small shows (some medium) we would attend.
We are planning to have some of the focus be on the dead or death or related topics to honor The Day of the Dead in our own way.
If anyone has any requests to add to remember or honor their Loved Ones, we welcome those songs. Even if you don't think they fit with our music choices, we still welcome them.

NODES 2026 is Neo4j's free, 24-hour global online conference, running across every time zone on November 12. The program is aimed at developers, data professionals, architects and AI engineers, with sessions on modern application development, multi-agent workflows, graph-backed retrieval and building context-rich systems that hold up in production. Talks are grouped by experience level, so there are introductory sessions for people new to graph databases alongside deeper technical material on knowledge graphs, agent orchestration and graph analytics at scale. Because the event streams continuously for a full day, Pacific-time attendees can join sessions in the morning, over lunch or in the evening, and recordings are typically published afterward. Discover how contemporary AI applications can serve as powerful tools for independent living, lifelong learning, and daily problem-solving. This interactive workshop demonstrates practical accessibility functions hidden inside everyday tech, such as instant text-to-speech audio conversion, natural voice-command interactions, and real-time smartphone image recognition (perfect for reading small labels or identifying objects). Moving into deeper research skills, we will outline advanced prompting methods while unpacking the distinct structural limits of large language models. Learn exactly why AI should never replace professional advisory services, and discover specific strategies for spotting online medical misinformation.
For this session, participants are asked to bring smartphones, laptops or tablets with internet access. Hands-on activities will also include more in-depth prompt writing techniques.

🚨 Newsflash: AN IDEA FOR A RIDE
On November 25, 1976 (Thanksgiving Day), the Band held a farewell concert at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. It was The Last Waltz.
Besides The Band, the concert featured their former employers, Ronnie Hawkins and Bob Dylan, as well as Paul Butterfield, Bobby Charles, Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Emmylou Harris, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, the Staple Singers, Ringo Starr, Muddy Waters, Ronnie Wood, and Neil Young.
The Last Waltz was filmed by Martin Scorsese who made a documentary film with the same name that came out in 1978. It is considered one of the greatest concert films ever made.
I have to admit that I never saw the film until recently, but with the 50th anniversary coming, I decided that I needed to have a look. It is truly a fine record of rock and other popular music in the mid 1970s and a showcase for the Band itself. (I admit also that I had previously known only their most popular songs.)
This year, November 25 is the day before Thanksgiving. I know that is busy day for many people, but I still think that it would be fitting to commemorate the 50th anniversary in a celebratory bike ride.
I do not have a speaker or trailer or any way to play music during a ride. That is why this is only "an idea for a ride". If this idea inspires you (and especially if you have a way to bring music to a ride), please reach out and let me know. If it doesn't work out, I can always stay home (or go somewhere else - my wife doesn't like the music) and watch the movie again. (I have the Blu-ray!)
Exact time is, of course, flexible, as are starting location, length, etc.

Much of this ride is beautiful farm country on the Tualatin Valley Scenic Bikeway. Traffic is very low. We will re-group about every 5 miles, riding in one speed group (18-20 mph.) For those riding slower than 18 mph or significantly faster: Each week we will decide the route at the beginning of the ride. Sample routes below. Please bring a snack for the break, which is usually in Banks or Forest Grove.
🚨 Newsflash: Not a ride
Don’t let a flat tire cut your ride short! Join Ride Westside for a hands-on clinic and learn how to repair a bicycle inner-tube puncture with a patch kit.
We’ll walk through finding the cause of a flat, removing the wheel and tube, locating and patching the puncture, and putting everything back together. You’ll have time to practice, ask questions, and learn what to carry in a compact repair kit.
No previous repair experience is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to give it a try. Leave feeling more confident handling a flat while you’re out riding.
This clinic focuses on conventional inner tubes. Tubeless tires and some e-bike wheels may require different procedures.
Would you ride in the rain for all-you-can-eat bratwurst? Let's enjoy some rolling (and likely rainy) miles to Verboort; the all-you-can eat dinner tastes way better if you ride there!
GETTING THERE
Meet at the Wallace Park picnic shelter near the basketball courts. Gather at 8am, departing at 8:30am - can't be too late to dinner. Pace will be spirited enough to stay warm but slow enough to not show up too sweaty. There will be a few regroup/snack breaks at the top of the climbs, as shown on the route.
THE ROUTE
Please be aware that there are some significant hills on this route, and we will be far from TriMet service at times. While this is a no-drop ride, you are expected to be self-sufficient! Bring enough layers and calories to keep yourself happy and healthy for the conditions. There are short sections of busy roads on route, but it is generally pretty low-traffic. There is a short section of gravel since it's the nicest way to get over the hill; you will be able to ride it on any type of bike.
Bring a lock, lights, rain gear, and some cash! Fenders are appreciated :)
THE SAUSAGE FESTIVAL
Dinner is $23, and there will be a wait to eat after we arrive. Luckily, there's a beer garden to pass the time in... There will be sauerkraut and sausage for sale. Make sure you've got the stomach and cargo capacity to take advantage of it all!
https://www.verboort.org/dinner
GETTING HOME
Worried about riding home? ...trust us, the MAX is the better option. We'll roll out as a group and keep the pace easy on our full tummies.

Join Adult Services Librarian April Younglove from the Lake Oswego Public Library for a hands-on, four-part series designed to demystify artificial intelligence. Learn how to navigate the digital world, protect your privacy, and use AI tools with confidence and skepticism. Sessions include clear, live demonstrations, interactive discussions, and personalized tech support. Free for all participants.
Foundations for Everyday Use
Kick off the series by stripping away the tech jargon and discovering how artificial intelligence can simplify your day-to-day life. This foundational session introduces core AI concepts and terminology—including AI summarizers, generative chatbots, and natural prompting—in clear, approachable language. Through live demonstrations of Claude AI, Microsoft Copilot, and ChatGPT, you will learn how to safely use these tools to brainstorm recipes, plan custom travel itineraries, and organize daily tasks. We will introduce the essential "Ask–Tweak–Verify" (ATV) framework alongside critical privacy guidelines to ensure you protect your personal data right from the start.
One-on-one lab assistance is proudly provided by student volunteers from the Lake Youth Leadership Council to help you configure settings on your personal devices.
Date / Time: Tuesday, September 15 | 2:00–3:30 p.m.
Class Number: 34825
Hands-On Skills and Sandbox Practice
Build directly upon your foundational knowledge with a supportive, highly interactive sandbox session dedicated to mastering digital assistants. In Part 2, participants shift from watching demonstrations to writing and refining their own prompts. Under patient guidance, you will practice conversational techniques, discover how subtle shifts in word choices yield dramatically improved answers, and learn how to implement standard internet safety boundaries. A major focus of this workshop will be learning how to cross-reference and fact-check chatbot output to ensure your digital interactions remain secure, accurate, and productive.
Personalized, one-on-one tech support will be provided throughout the hands-on practice intervals by members of the Lake Youth Leadership Council.
Date / Time: Tuesday, October 20 | 2:00–3:30 p.m.
Class Number: 34826
Helping Seniors Navigate Daily Life With Confidence
Personalized, one-on-one tech support will be provided throughout the hands-on practice intervals by members of the Lake Youth Leadership Council.
Date / Time: Tuesday, November 17 | 2:00–3:30 p.m.
Class Number: 34827
Becoming a Confident, Critical AI User
The final installation equips you with an essential digital defense toolkit to evaluate whether online content is authentic, accurate, and trustworthy. We will break down common system errors, reveal how "hallucinations" occur, and introduce quick, library-approved methods for verifying data across independent sources. Crucially, this session helps participants recognize how malicious actors deploy technology for modern fraudulent schemes—including cloning voices for identity scams, fabricating hyper-realistic deepfakes, and pushing complex cryptocurrency traps. Leave with the confidence and critical awareness needed to enjoy modern digital conveniences safely and securely.
Personalized, one-on-one tech support will be provided throughout the hands-on practice intervals by members of the Lake Youth Leadership Council.
Date / Time: Tuesday, December 15 | 2:00–3:30 p.m.

Is It AI or Is It Real? How to Spot Computer-Generated Content Like a Librarian (Digital Dive #1)Explore the sophisticated tools and methodologies professional librarians utilize to identify computer-generated texts, altered documents, and artificial imagery. This session provides actionable, real-world clues to help you differentiate between genuine human creations and artificial content in your daily newsfeeds and correspondence.
This class was originally presented at the Lake Oswego Public Library.
Navigate the rapidly-evolving digital landscape with clarity and balance. This session pulls back the curtain on automated "content farms," breaking down how social media algorithms, financial pay-per-click incentives, and strategic influence campaigns purposefully accelerate the distribution of false narratives. Learn to evaluate source motivations and protect your digital footprint from predatory content design.
This class was originally presented at the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center.

Yo! The fall is here and so are cozy and comfy mornings! Let's change that with a fun fall ride down south across the Canby Ferry and back! Our friend has a fun route that will start us off at the Beaverton Transit Center and ending at the Vera Katz Statue on the eastside of the river in Portland! We have a 51 mile route and 2,300 feet of climbing! Tough sauce! You know how we roll, faster and more adventurous with that no drop mentality. Around mile 26 there will be a lunch stop. Sleep in! We won't meet up until 10am, take the bus or MAX to B.T.C., and will roll out at 10:30. There is a $3 fee for crossing the ferry per bike so don't forget that along with your tubes and patch kit, lights, P.M.A., snacks, helmet, bike, Dude Luna, and those beautiful smiles! Hit us up on Instagram @cyclecatspdx if you have any questions! See you there!
Free exclusive sticker for anyone who attends! (this will be the only way to get this sticker!)
Yo it's Backpack, I am leading the DBBC club ride for November because it's right around my birthday. It'll be pretty chill pace, accessible to all bicycles (feel free to ride a freak bike if you have one). It should be a relatively easy route (classic three stops: park -> store -> end). Ending with a campfire, free stickers, should be a good time. Bring your friends, bring your grandma, bring your dog. It will likely be chilly, so dress warm / pack layers. Be respectful to other riders! If a rando is being a weird let someone in the club know!
I am hoping to facilitate a casual game of mumblety-peg at the end spot. If you are unfamiliar with the game there's be no obligation to play.
Thank you, hope to see you at the ride!
Start spot: THE RAT - Rose and Thistle Pub House 2417 NE Broadway
Ride meets at 8pm on 11/7
Ride leaves at 9pm

AI agents dominate current industry discussion, yet clear explanations of what they are, why they fail, and what roles they are creating remain scarce. This session offers a foundational introduction for students and early-career technologists. We’ll examine what distinguishes an agent from a conventional chatbot — tools, memory, and planning loops — and trace an agent through the completion of a realistic task. We then turn to the less-demonstrated half of the problem: the data an agent requires to be useful, and the boundaries it requires to be safe.
