Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812

Lewis & Clark College615 South Palatine Hill Road

From the celebrated and award-winning composer Dave Malloy comes Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812, an electropop opera based on a scandalous slice of Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace. Young and impulsive, Natasha Rostova arrives in Moscow to await the return of her fiancΓ© from the front lines. When she falls under the spell of the roguish Anatole, it is up to Pierre, a family friend in the middle of an existential crisis, to pick up the pieces of her shattered reputation. Following a critically exalted premiere at Ars Nova in New York City, a subsequent off-Broadway transfer and an acclaimed run on Broadway, this award-winning musical expands the possibilities for the genre with its daring score and bold storytelling.

Hung Dance

Choreographer Lai Hung-Chung makes dances of striking beauty and intention. β€œBirdy,” his captivating signature work for Hung Dance, moves between suspense and explosive energy, between the weight of tradition and the pull toward something new. Hung Dance blends traditional Chinese arts, including tai chi, Peking Opera, and classical Chinese music, with contemporary dance technique and driving electronic music, creating work that is poetic and rhythmic at once. What audiences see on stage is a world in constant transformation, where bodies bend and resist, images linger, and the tension between holding on and letting go becomes the dance itself.

Lucy Bedroque

Los Angeles based nineteen year old Jeremiah Mark (they/he) released their first full-length endeavor under the moniker Lucy Bedroque, their deadAir Records debut. With no prior singles, the breakneck seventeen track shotgun blast of Digicore and Hardcore Hip Hop, titled β€œUnmusique” has established them as a bastion of these underground sounds. The release date coincided with their first show on the Jane Remover and Dazegxd tour β€œTURN UP OR DIE”, along with a full west coast run.

Leading up to this moment, Lucy Bedroque gained a cult following in the shadowy sectors of the online underground, with a break-out debut LP β€œSisterhood” as Lostrushi. This is the name that raised them to notoriety alongside peers 9lives, prettifun, and egobreak. The new material continues further down the same path, combining cutthroat rage, with the eclecticism and sensitivities of Stereolab, Radiohead, and Deftones.

While forging their distinct multi-media surrealism, Mark also found a penchant for customized linguistics and contorting the English language. Most notably, the title β€œGlutmother” (the name fans chose for a hyper-active Subreddit) graces the cover art of the debut and the packaging of β€œUnmusique. β€œThe role of motherhood here is representative of a superiority to everything around it. But beyond humans, it’s a reference to mother nature and creation.” They explain. As for why it’s juxtaposed with gluttony, that’s because β€œPeople want more than anyone can handle, and I’ve responded to it with a perfectionist’s mindset.” They combine into a deep resonance of identity that’d easily evade a new listener.

Born on Cape Cod, Cooper B. Handy started releasing music as LUCY in 2009. In the years since, the Western Massachusetts-based singer/producer has made a career of self-releasing music and videos, unpolished & posted in near real time. LUCY’s captivating live performance has earned him a cult following on the DIY circuit, playing shows in basements and warehouses across the country. His music is experimental and raw – at times even abrasive. His GarageBand-based production has never swayed far from the sample packs and synth sounds he started writing music with 14 years ago. Aggressively prolific, Handy has amassed an extensive catalog that is both eccentric and earnest. His music channels a sense of creative exploration, and his lyrics pack real wisdom into unassuming one-liners.

Tea Ceremony Workshop: Learn the Role of the Guest with Jan Waldmann

Portland Japanese Garden’s Tea Ceremony Workshop offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the traditional practice of Chanoyu, or the Way of Tea. Experience the art of tranquility, mindfulness, and omotenashi, whole-hearted hospitality.

It is not an exaggeration to say that through tea, one can understand much of Japanese culture. Tea’s influence can be found in many of the nation’s most beloved artforms, including arranging flowers, calligraphy, incense, ceramics and lacquerware. Japanese gardens are also deeply intertwined with tea ceremony. The four principles of tea, wa (harmony), kei (respect), sei (purity), and jaku (tranquility), are explored by the gardeners of Portland Japanese Garden in their work every day.

Guided by skilled instructor Jan Waldmann, Sosui, the focus of this workshop is to learn to be a guest in the tea ceremony, an important aspect to this historic tradition. Participants will learn the proper etiquette for attending a tea ceremony, including how to receive and consume sweets and matcha, and most importantly, the reasons behind each of the steps. Additionally, you will gain insight into what it entails to be a hostβ€” understanding the occasion and seasonality, attention to aesthetics, careful preparation, and the thoughtful gestures made toward the guests.

Participants will first attend a presentation of tea ceremony in our Cathy Rudd Cultural Corner alongside visitors to the Garden before they are taken into their exclusive workshop in the Yanai Classroom.

Participants will first attend a presentation of tea ceremony in our Cathy Rudd Cultural Corner alongside visitors to the Garden (2:00-2:30pm) before they are taken into their exclusive workshop in the Yanai Family Classroom (2:45-4:15pm).

No previous experience is needed. Students will sit in a chair at a table, not kneeling on a tatami mat.

Urasenke Konnichian of Kyoto is one of the major establishments within Japan that has preserved the tradition of Chado or the Way of Tea.β€― From the first Urasenke generation, Sen no Rikyu (1522-91) to the current headmaster Zabosai Genmoku Soshitsu XVI (b.1956 -), the Sen family lineage has devoted great effort to fostering the philosophy of Tea through the simple words of Wa – Harmony, Kei -Repect, Sei – Purity & Jaku – Tranquility. Over the years Urasenke has established connections in over 21 cities worldwide.

Centrifugal Force Machine with Glori and Runoti

Industrial techno, darkwave and synth-punk converge as CFM, Glori and Runoti map Portland’s darker electronic underground.

Centrifugal Force Machine - is an industrial techno project from the mind and body of Court Knight, based out of Portland, Oregon β€” circa 2025. CFM combines components of hard techno and 80’s industrial with lyrics pertaining to death and the desire to die. Their project is entrenched from their former career as a mortician, and the name and visceral energy both draw from that experience.

Glori - is the solo electronic music project/alter ego of Annalisa Rose from Portland, OR. Using hardware synthesizers and sirenlike vocals, she builds restless, shadowy dreamscapes with pulsing darkwave rhythms. Beneath strobing pink lights, black widow beats entwine menace and longing, daring you to dance until you’re dead. Glori plans to release her long-awaited debut EP later this year.

Runoti - is an exploration of darkwave and synth punk. Returning from hiatus with a new EP driven by classic synth sounds and punchy bass lines this show is the first preview of what’s to come.

Quadeca makes genre-defiant music that bends experimental hip-hop, neo-psychedelia, alternative R&B, pop, bossa nova, and more to his whims. Transformation in Nature with Clara-Julia Peru

We invite you to join our transformation in nature retreat to slow down from your daily life, capture moments in nature, reflect and resonate with the seasonal changes that surround us.

Participants will begin with self-reflective prompts before embarking on a slow, guided walk, where they will be invited to observe and capture with a camera (or cell phone) how the late autumn garden mirrors the landscapes of transformation, grief and transition.

The seasonal landscape itself becomes a teacher: the architectural presence of conifers standing among bare deciduous trees, the rich layers of fallen leaves returning to the soil, beavers preparing for winter, eagles tending their nests, seed pods, mosses, textures, changing light, and the quiet beauty that emerges when life appears stripped down to its essence.

Through mindful photographs, participants will gather visual "fragments" before coming together in a circle for creative reflection, gentle conversation, and complementary herbal teas. The intention is to cultivate presence, symbolism, and a compassionate way of witnessing both nature and ourselves.

Bring comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate layers, drinking water, optional snack, camera or cell phone. If using a cell phone camera, be sure that the sound is off.

About the Guest Facilitator

Clara-Julia Peru is an artist, poet and nature advocate. She is a grief informed art and nature guide with an abundance of specialized training in grief support and expression. Learn more about Clara-Julia’s work here.

Mattress 20

The one-man band without a plan, Mattress started in 2006. To quote a sassy pal (with initials IB): β€œYou are wildly unpopular for that amount of time.” Amen. Who cares? Art for art’s sake. For the first time ever–Mattress is putting together a full band for this show. 5 guitars? 8 keyboards? 12 drummers? Yodelers and a glass harmonica? Probably.

Mattress has made some friends over 20 years and put together this stellar bill (more of a mini-fest), bringing together acts he met 20 years ago and 2 years ago. Check this out:

Black Shelton (solo), a one-man band powerhouse of wit, sleaze and electro boogie. Songs "I'm Back in the Doghouse Again" and β€œWhite Lover” will warp your mind.

Dragging an Ox Thru Water fingerpicking melody noise glitch heart string puller.

THRONES Joe Preston is coming out of semi-retirement to do this show. Hopefully this will get some elder goths and heshers out of their LazyBoys and into the show.

Joe Von Appen, the monologue performance semi-comedy satirist who has toured with Mattress for close to 10,000 miles. He will host the show; his dry wit will confuse and entertain most in attendance.

Special guest TBA, probably famous, very name-droppable.

Who is in the Mattress band? Members of Modest Mouse, The Fur Coats, Dommengang, Room, WIBG, Black Shelton and others.

Daily Bread

REALM PDX615 SE Alder St

Repping from Atlanta, Daily Bread (the sonic vision of producer Rhett Whatley) has spent the last decade carving out a sound that feels both timeless and forward-leaning. Rooted in jazz guitar, crate-digging, and early beat experiments from his bedroom studio, Daily Bread’s music has always thrived at the intersection of vintage soul, gritty hip-hop, and bass-forward production. Guided by an instinct to bring old sounds to new ears, his tracks unfold like lived-in stories: warm, textured, and unmistakably his own.

As Daily Bread moves into 2026, the focus remains on forward motion. Kicking off the year with new music on the horizon and confirmed festival appearances at Lightning in a Bottle, Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, and Elements, Daily Bread continues to push his sound into new territory while staying rooted in the soulful, sample-driven foundation that built his devoted following.

ValΓ© Papi Fimbres

VALÉ is a fiercely talented vocalist and songwriter from Barranquilla, Colombia. Drawn to music at an early age, VALÉ began performing when she was just 6 years old in her school choir. By her early teens, she had found inspiration in American pop and R&B music, and began writing songs of her own. Influenced by some of her idols, VALÉ started to forge her own unique voice and point of view on the genre. She has spent time writing and recording in Los Angeles and Barranquilla, assembling a new collection of singles leading up to her 2024 debut EP, under the sun, and her latest singles, "estrella," "cold blooded," "lightspeed," and "rapido."

VALÉ's infectious melodies, catchy hooks, and standout vocals are bound to win fans from all over the world, establishing VALÉ as the leader in a new generation of Colombian pop artists. VALÉ has collaborated with artists such as Jesse Baez, Trinidad Cardona, and Angrybaby, and has toured with The Driver Era earlier in 2025. In the fall of 2025, she joined Between Friends on their North American WOW! TOUR!, and in the spring of 2026, she opened for Luna Luna on their For Siempre Tour.

Aside from Papi Fimbres playing in over a thousand bands in and around the city of Portland, Oregon, he also manages to find time to DJ when the opportunity arises. Whether it's '50s & '60s Cumbias from Colombia to Peru or '70s Afro Funk from West Africa, he's always bringing the POC vibes to the dance floors & causing a sweaty dance frenzy.
