How We Show Up: A Zine-Making Workshop for Civic Action

How We Show Up: A Zine-Making Workshop for Civic Action November 7, 2026 Admission: $10 per participant Share × " class="share-btn"> Share on Facebook &text=How We Show Up: A Zine-Making Workshop for Civic Action" class="share-btn"> Share on Twitter Email Saturday, November 7 | 12:30-3:30pm Inspired by OJMCHE’s How We Show Up exhibition, this hands-on workshop invites high school and college students to make zines as a way to show up and create change in our community. Zines are a small but mighty form of self-publishing: Anyone can make, print, and share them to amplify ideas and inspire change. We’ll provide everything you need to get started, including creative supplies, templates, paper, pens, and a traveling zine library for inspiration. Every participant will make and take home a zine—no previous experience required. Just bring an interest in civic engagement and enthusiasm for creating something new. This program is intended for teens through college level participants. Registration is required due to limited space and closes on Thursday, November 5. The workshop will be facilitated by designer, artist and zine enthusiast Kelsey Snook . Kelsey has worked with local non-profit OK YOU to develop a not-so-secret zine society and spent more than 15 years creating participatory environments that bring people together. Verboort Sausage Festival

  • Organizer: Cameron Bennett
  • Schedule: Meet at 8am, ride at 8:30am
  • Ride Length: 15+ miles
  • End Location: The scheduled portion of the ride will end at the sausage fest. Stick with the group to roll to the Hatfield (Hillsboro) MAX station after dinner, or ride home when you've had enough to eat and drink.
  • Location Details: Meet under the picnic shelter by the basketball courts

Would you ride in the rain for all-you-can-eat bratwurst? Let's enjoy some rolling (and likely rainy) miles to Verboort; the all-you-can eat dinner tastes way better if you ride there!

GETTING THERE
Meet at the Wallace Park picnic shelter near the basketball courts. Gather at 8am, departing at 8:30am - can't be too late to dinner. Pace will be spirited enough to stay warm but slow enough to not show up too sweaty. There will be a few regroup/snack breaks at the top of the climbs, as shown on the route.

THE ROUTE
Please be aware that there are some significant hills on this route, and we will be far from TriMet service at times. While this is a no-drop ride, you are expected to be self-sufficient! Bring enough layers and calories to keep yourself happy and healthy for the conditions. There are short sections of busy roads on route, but it is generally pretty low-traffic. There is a short section of gravel since it's the nicest way to get over the hill; you will be able to ride it on any type of bike.

Bring a lock, lights, rain gear, and some cash! Fenders are appreciated :)

Dinner is $23, and there will be a wait to eat after we arrive. Luckily, there's a beer garden to pass the time in... There will be sauerkraut and sausage for sale. Make sure you've got the stomach and cargo capacity to take advantage of it all!

GETTING HOME
Worried about riding home? ...trust us, the MAX is the better option. We'll roll out as a group and keep the pace easy on our full tummies.
