H-Bomb Fitness Turkey Trot 2026

A community Turkey Trot in Carlton, Oregon offers a family-friendly walk or trot through town while supporting neighbors in need. The event is free, and registration is optional to help with planning. Participants are invited to bring nonperishable food or a grocery gift card for the Yamhill-Carlton Storehouse. The Big Larz Community Sports Locker benefits from raffle proceeds and a $10 contribution for each event shirt or hoodie sold. Raffle prizes are provided by local businesses and community members, with tickets priced at $5 each or 5 for $20. Donations of raffle items or baskets are welcomed, especially family-focused options. After the trot, everyone can warm up with coffee, tea, and hot cocoa and spend time together as a community. The route map and updates will be shared on the event’s Facebook page as details are finalized. Pine Pruning Demonstration

Portland Japanese Garden611 SW Kingston Ave

Pruning pines to achieve the look they have in spaces like Portland Japanese Garden requires meticulous care and years of learning. In this demonstration, Pete Putnicki, Japanese Pruning Specialist and former Senior Gardener at Seattle Japanese Garden, will discuss the maintenance of pine trees.

This program will start with a tour of the Garden focusing on pine trees, followed by a lecture and demonstration. The demonstration will focus on candling, needling, growth regulation, and pruning techniques. Participants will have a chance to experience pine needling themselves with an instructor guiding them along the way.

This one-day demonstration is limited to 15 participants.

Participants should bring their own lunch, a reusable drinking cup or water bottle.

Educational material will be provided.

Event fees are non-refundable and this event takes place rain or shine, so please dress appropriately for the weather.

Holiday outfits are encouraged for humans and dogs alike. Dogs are not required to attend this crowd-favorite event!

Dogs must be on a leash at all times. Strollers are allowed for kiddos but for safety purposes, no bikes, scooters, skates, or motorized vehicles are allowed at this event. There is also no designated dog potty area, so please pick up after your pups!

There are a number of ways you can dispose of your Halloween pumpkin - you can put it in your compost pile, you can put it in your yard debris container for curbside collection, or... you can toss it off the training tower at the Westlake Fire Station!

Bring your pumpkins, carved or not, to Westlake Park, 14165 Bunick Drive, on November 1 between 2 and 5 p.m. to take part in this free, fun event. Participants will climb the tower and toss their pumpkin to a target below.

Hosted by the Lake Oswego Fire Department, and joined by Lake Oswego Police and Library, this event supports Hunger Fighters Oregon (www.hungerfightersoregon.org), a small food pantry located in Lake Oswego dedicated to providing food and essential household items at no cost to those in need. To help, please bring a donation of non-expired, non-perishable food items. Thanksgiving/holiday foods and ingredients such as mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, broth, and pie/bread mix are appreciated.

We’ll work to clear this remote trail of brush, logs and other debris, and improve tread where needed.

Hiking information:

We’ll drive to the top of Horsetail Creek Trail and work our way down. The first few work days won’t involve much hiking, but the hike will become longer as we work toward the Bell Creek junction.

You should plan to participate in this trail party for its entirety. For safety reasons, please do not arrive late or expect to be able to leave early.

Event details:

Detailed event information, including directions to the meeting location, will be provided to registrants via email 48 hours prior to the event. If you’re volunteering for the first time, read this blog by a volunteer to know what to expect at your first trail party.

What to bring:

Plenty of water
Snacks/lunch
Work gloves if you have them (loaner gloves available)
Any medications or emergency supplies you may need
Sunscreen + insect repellent
A pack to bring all of this with you on trail
TKO provides all tools and personal protective equipment (hard hats, gloves, glasses)

Join Eco Club and the Moreau Center for Service and Justice to give a little TLC to the local neighborhood after Halloween festivities. After holidays like Halloween, we tend to see a spike in litter on and around campus and we have the opportunity to change that on November 1st from 1 to 3pm! We will walk along Willamette Blvd and around through N Fiske Ave, N Yale St, and N Van Houten Ave. At the start, meet us for check in on the walkway between the Chiles Center and Joe Etzel Baseball Field on N Portsmouth Ave. There, we'll have all supplies provided including gloves, garbage bags, vests, and grabbers. We'll also have snacks and donuts available to kick off the event. This event is open to the UP community as well as other neighborhood locals and anyone who wants to volunteer. We will have restrooms available on campus, and there is plenty of parking available. Please register in advance so we make sure to have enough cleanup supplies. Please bring your own trash grabber if you have one. All ages are welcome. We recommend working in pairs or small groups, dressing for the weather, and bringing a waterbottle. All are welcome for this fun community run and walking group, held on the first Saturday of every month. This is a free community group, so anyone can join the runners or walkers at no cost. It's a great Milwaukie Running Club group. The sauna social after the run is offered at half price: just $14.50. Capacity is limited to the first 20 sign-ups, so you are encouraged to sign up in advance.

The light pace is great for beginners, and set by the group. If a few people want to go slower or faster, the group will split into different-paced pods. Simply show up just before 8 a.m., run or walk for about an hour, then enjoy sauna time together at half price afterward.

Soak up that steam and the cold contrast for muscle recovery, improved circulation and enhanced running performance. Meet rain or shine and always make sure everyone is feeling safe and supported. Keep up that momentum toward your 2026 goals with this guided route — run or walk.

We invite you to join our transformation in nature retreat to slow down from your daily life, capture moments in nature, reflect and resonate with the seasonal changes that surround us.

Participants will begin with self-reflective prompts before embarking on a slow, guided walk, where they will be invited to observe and capture with a camera (or cell phone) how the late autumn garden mirrors the landscapes of transformation, grief and transition.

The seasonal landscape itself becomes a teacher: the architectural presence of conifers standing among bare deciduous trees, the rich layers of fallen leaves returning to the soil, beavers preparing for winter, eagles tending their nests, seed pods, mosses, textures, changing light, and the quiet beauty that emerges when life appears stripped down to its essence.

Through mindful photographs, participants will gather visual "fragments" before coming together in a circle for creative reflection, gentle conversation, and complementary herbal teas. The intention is to cultivate presence, symbolism, and a compassionate way of witnessing both nature and ourselves.

Bring comfortable walking shoes, weather-appropriate layers, drinking water, optional snack, camera or cell phone. If using a cell phone camera, be sure that the sound is off.

This is a nice late season hike with great views if we catch a crisp bluebird day. It's about 9 miles and 1700 ft elevation gain. It follows the PCT to Indian Racetrack before climbing up Red Mountain and back to the trailhead along a closed, gravel road. Oregon Hikers has a good description. The drive is about 1.5 hrs from the MMC.

This will be an exploratory hike as I've previously taken a different out and back route to Red Mountain. While I haven't hiked this exact trail, I do know that this time of year in the Indian Heaven Wilderness there can be swampy sections of the trail depending on if there has been melting snow or a good rain that fills the meadows. It's worth a little damp shoes though!

Join Columbia Slough Watershed Council and Bird Guide Ryan Gilpin, from Nidus Consulting for a morning of Birding at Blue Lake Regional Park. Explore the beautiful Blue Lake and discover what birds may be flying, as we walk and practice identifying birds! This is a rain or shine event. All ages are welcome. Participants under the age of 18, will need to be accompanied by a parent, adult, or legal guardian.

What to bring: Dress for the weather and bring water. Snacks and drinks will be available. We will have extra binoculars. Bring yours, if you have them! Dogs are not allowed in this park because they can damage sensitive habitat and threaten wildlife.

Getting there:

See map below for meeting point and ideal parking location, circled in red. We will meet at Celilo Shelter. Metro kindly reserved this shelter for us from 9am-11am.

Metro has also granted us with 15 parking passes, free of charge. These passes are reserved on a first come, first serve basis. If you reserved a parking pass ticket - once you have arrived, drive past the kiosk, and check in with Liz at the welcome table to claim your pass. All passes need to be displayed in your windshield of your vehicle. Please attempt to carpool.

Parking passes are $5 per car, and can be purchased at Blue Lake. If you would like to attend and seeking no barrier to entry, please reach out.

By Bus: Take Bus line 21 to NE Sandy & 223rd, then walk about 1 mile up 223rd to Blue Lake Park.

By bike: Use bike lanes east on Marine Drive to Blue Lake Road or east on Halsey to 223rd Avenue and follow the signs north to the park. Bicycles are welcome inside the park on paved paths.

Accessibility:

My motivation for leading this hike is to give people the opportunity for great views after our RTM weather was completely rainy/cloudy. I have not done this hike before. However, I am registered to do this hike a week prior to this date as reconnaissance. So it should be fresh.

To quote Bill Stein's listing description, "the river crossings should be at their least gnarly in late October. The loop in the middle of our hike will be counter-clockwise; we will return from the Timberline Trail via the Newton Creek Trail. Expected stats are 11.4 miles and 2,550' of gain."

Meet at Gateway Transit center at 6AM, get to the trailhead by 7:30AM.

Recognized throughout the Pacific Northwest as the “Largest Holiday Light Show West of the Mississippi”, Winter Wonderland will grab your attention with glimmers and glows around every corner. Since 1993, a journey through Winter Wonderland has become a holiday tradition for many families, friends, and social organizations, celebrating the spirit of the season. Spectators can enjoy the region’s most spectacular drive-through light show, viewing over 250 colorful light set pieces and many fully animated scenes from the comfort of their own vehicle. Studded tires and chains are not allowed at Portland International Raceway.

Bike the Lights is reserved for cyclists. Take a lap or five and see over 250 holiday light displays up close on Sunday, November 29. This event has a dedicated following of bike lovers who attend year after year, decking out their rides in holiday lights and rocking their favorite holiday gear — from Santa suits to reindeer onesies. Bike the Lights is a pedal-power-only event (speed limit is 10mph). E-bikes are allowed as long as they have pedals. Safety gear is highly encouraged for all participants, though kids 16 and under must wear a helmet.

Lights and Leashes, sponsored by Country Financial, is a dog-friendly walking event where anyone can experience the magic of Winter Wonderland at their own pace on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. Take a leisurely stroll and see over a million holiday lights up close. Holiday outfits are encouraged for humans and dogs alike. Dogs are not required to attend this crowd-favorite event. Day three will be 6-8 hrs of field evaluations. Candidates typically receive an “A” level certification. Candidates who demonstrate extensive skill and leadership with considerable hands-on saw experience may receive “B” level certification.

**A current First Aid and CPR certification is required to attend the field portions of this event, and for saw certifications to be valid. Per Forest Service policy, this certification must involve an in-person component and is not valid if performed entirely online.**TKO staff, volunteers, professionals, and USFS staff cannot use crosscut saws or chainsaws unless they hold a recognized and valid sawyer certification, First Aid, and CPR card. The pop-up community center also features an onsite bar, a free craft supply swap, DIY junk journaling, mending and upcycling, gift wrapping, games, giveaways, community resources, a food pantry, a photobooth, and flash tattoos. Admission is free, and all ages are welcome.

Wind Mountain and Beacon Rock

We'll visit two unique gorge viewpoints. Wind Mountain has a short but steep trail to an area of significance to indigenous peoples. 2.8 miles and 1300 feet of elevation gain. A small section of the trail is steep and loose enough that a rope hand-line has been put in place.

After a 25-minute drive back towards Portland, we'll hike to the top of Beacon Rock from the Doetsch Day Use Area via the River to Rock trail. About 5 miles with 900 feet of gain. Portions of the trail may be overgrown with blackberry bushes and nettles.

We'll carpool from the MMC departing at 7:30 am or you can meet us at the Wind Mountain trailhead at 8:30. A Washington Discover Pass is needed for parking at the Doetsch Day Use Area.

Everyone (members and non-members) is welcome to attend the club meeting. These meetings are a chance to understand the workings of the club, discuss issues, vote (when there is something to vote on), watch a special interest presentation, socialize, and have a club-provided snack.

Riding to and from the club meeting in the dark and/or inclement weather is discouraged for safety reasons. Rider mileage is NOT available.

This month's Featured Presentation is actually a Featured Participation! We'll be doing the collection for Sno-Cap (food, warm cloths grocery bags, egg cartons, bottles with deposits that they can reclaim, you get the idea). There will also be the annual pot luck where everyone brings something for refreshments. And...the gear swap.
