Search and Destroy: A Multimedia Variety Show

Performance Works NorthWest4625 Southeast 67th Avenue

Search and Destroy (S.A.D. for short) is a multimedia variety show happening on the last friday of every month featuring artists and local leaders sharing their craft and talking about what matters most to them. Through storytelling, live conversations, audience interaction, and heavy doses of honesty and humor, S.A.D. seeks to give hope and to be an entertaining and informative space for all to have fun, let loose, and be reminded that we as a people have the agency and ability to initiate change by working together as one.

S.A.D. was partly inspired by late-night television talk shows and variety hours and follows a similar format: an eye-catching opening number, a charming Emcee willing to play the fool, and a shared evening of dance, music, film, comedy, and conversations/interviews, all loosely tied to a theme of the night. The show ends with a dance party where the audience is invited to join the party on stage.
One of the main goals of each S.A.D. show is to dissolve the separation between artist and audience by directly engaging, conversing, and interacting with the audience, inviting them to participate in their seats as well as on the stage.
Every show features dance movement, improvisation, visual imagery and soundscapes, conversations and spoken word, and various bits that play with the blurring of boundaries between the scripted and unscripted, all through an honest and humorous lens and the intention to entertain, educate, and inspire. Each episode of S.A.D. showcases different artists and acts than the previous one, guaranteeing that every iteration is unique and can only be experienced once.
S.A.D. is a show for everybody and every body, regardless of their identity, background, age, and anything else used to describe oneself.

*Revenue generated from each show is split evenly amongst the contributing artists

Magic Tea Party: A Live D&D Comedy Show

Fuse Theatre Ensemble - The Back Door Theater4319 Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard

In this live Dungeons and Dragons show, comedians and performers take to the stage to play some theater games, share some jokes, and play some D&D.

This season of Magic Tea Party, you will join Dungeon Master Juliet Mylan, who will lead:

  • Cosmo Reynolds (as Joey, just some guy with a ukulele that frequents Portland open mics)
  • Jenna Britann (as Holbrook, a 165,786,084 yr old dilophosaurus),
  • Riley McCarthy (as Enoch "Nucky" Fallstar, an apostle of the doomsday cult Threshold of Paradise with some unorthodox powers)

Audience members will take part in controlling the players' fate as they navigate an AU magical Portland in a series of side quests to gather magical artifacts for MOMSI (that's Magical OMSI for the layperson). The show can include strong adult themes and language, so if you bring your 8-year-old, just know they may learn something you were hoping to discuss with them after they hit puberty. Recommended for ages 16+ and parental guidance for those younger.

Small concessions booth with snacks, sodas, seltzers, beer, and wine available at the show. A coffee shop is located in front of the theater, and beverages are welcome in the theater. Tickets are GAYAF (Give As You’re Able Friend) with a suggested donation of $20 to compensate the performers and keep this independent LGBTQ theater running.

Serve a Meal at Jean's Place (age 18+) *Hands On*

Support a meal for the ladies at Jean's Place! Volunteers will be asked to bring ingredients to contribute to the meal and the group will prepare dinner on-site to serve to the ladies living at Jean's Place. The volunteer leader will contact each volunteer to instruct you on what ingredients to bring. We're counting on you! It is imperative that if you sign up for this project, you intend to be there and provide the ingredients that are assigned to you. When volunteers don't show up, we're not able to make the meal. If you are unable to attend, please let your Volunteer Leader know ASAP! Please note: no volunteer will be turned away due to lack of resources. If bringing a food item is a hardship for you, please alert the project leader. Everyone will then help facilitate a game of bingo, which will include prizes for the winners! Join us for this unique experience! Volunteers are asked to refrain from wearing strong fragrances, such as perfume and cologne, during their volunteer shift. A part of Transition Projects, Jean's Place is a transitional housing program for adult, single homeless women. Project Requirements: Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to attend this project. If you plan to bring guests you MUST reserve slots for them. The best way to do this is to create a Volunteer Team, then sign up your team for this project. IMPORTANT NOTE: You are responsible for ensuring that everyone signed up through your team attends - only sign up team members who have confirmed their availability. Teams that repeatedly sign up, but do not show up or show up with fewer volunteers than they signed up, may be removed. To add or remove team members from a project, click on "My Account" and then "My Teams," above. Click "Sign Up" below to reserve your spot! Need help signing up?
