Sketch Coven Meetup for Writers and Actors

Sketch Coven is a meetup and workshop for sketch comedians. Each month, we get together at Kickstand Comedy to read scripts in progress, give supportive feedback, and help develop a fun, vibrant sketch community here in Portland.

NOTE: This meeting will take place off site at 21ten Theatre 2110 SE 10th Ave

Click to sign up as a writer, actor, or just to observe and meet new people.

Writers bring drafts of their work for the group, including actors and acting-curious improvisers, to table read. Facilitators will provide feedback, then open discussion.Whether you have a completed script, a rough draft, or just a loose concept you'd like to flesh out, Sketch Coven is a place to develop your sketch skills – don't be shy!We prioritize scripts from first timers and revised drafts of sketches we've read at previous meetings. Expect to only have one script read, but feel free to bring more. We'll do our best to get through as many as we can in the time we have.

Every 4th Saturday of the month.

Suggested donation is $10 to support this and other Kickstand programs. Payment/ticket purchase is not required to attend, but please be sure to RSVP with your info.DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT A SKETCH CLASS OR SHOW. While we want this to be a constructive experience for everyone, Sketch Coven doesn't teach a set curriculum. If you're looking to learn the basics of sketch writing, we recommend you take Kickstand's classes

Phoenix Folk - Singaround

🌐via ZoomVirtual Event

This is an open access session, so there’s no need to book in advance, you’re welcome to just turn up. At our weekly singaround, you can perform a song to the rest of the group, just as you would in a regular folk club, or you can just join and listen to some live music. Tunes and poems are welcome too. When it’s your turn to perform, everyone else is muted on Zoom so that everyone can hear you. Phoenix Folk Ltd exists to promote participation and performance in folk and acoustic music, song and dance across the North East of England. We aim to be a friendly face of folk music, to help keep alive the great traditions of folk music and to encourage talent and personal musical development. If you’d like us to record your performance so that you have a copy to keep, then we’re very happy to do so. We’re always willing to offer advice to help you to get the best sound quality when performing online, so do get in touch if you have any questions.

Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World (2026)

Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World (2026) Directed by Sasha Waters Freyer. 1hr 31min. Not Rated.

If poetry had a pop icon, Mary Oliver would be it. Best-selling poet and Pulitzer Prize-winner, lover of dogs and long walks in the woods, queer and out but intensely private—Oliver’s poems inspire liberals and conservatives, atheists and believers, naturalists and urbanites. She was America’s unlikely, contemporary mystic, stalking the ponds and forests of Cape Cod for nearly fifty years in order to open herself—and us, her readers—to the known and unknowable world. Sasha Waters’ beguiling portrait features poems read by Helena Bonham Carter, Steve Buscemi, Stephen Colbert, Lucy Dacus, Jesse Welles, and Oprah Winfrey.

This film is featured as part of Portland Book Festival’s Cover to Cover.
