Get Together With Your Unhoused Neighbors! Come Socialize (age 18+) *Hands On*

At Operation Nightwatch, volunteers play an important role to those who come through our doors each night; and not only through serving food and distributing essential items. Social connection is at the heart of our mission, and we strive to provide our guests with hospitality and unconditional positive regard with each interaction. Three nights a week we provide a comfortable atmosphere for guests to socialize over a cup of coffee, connect with their greater community of unhoused and housed folks alike, cultivate friendships…and probably beat you at Scrabble. Volunteers are asked to arrive at 5:45 pm for a brief orientation and tour of our facilities before being assigned tasks. Throughout the evening you may be tasked with a variety of duties ranging from coffee service to bathroom monitor, but our core mission remains: providing hospitality & social connection. We invite you to show up just as you are, and expect you to extend the same grace to our guests. The majority of our guests are experiencing houselessness, but many do have housing and may even live nearby. Operation Nightwatch welcomes everyone without question. Every meal or cup of coffee is served with kindness and respect. Since 1981, Operation Nightwatch has been providing hospitality to alleviate the isolation experienced by those living on the streets. We also distribute essential items and offer drop in mental health support to those who request it. Our hospitality center is one of the few who offer nighttime services, and for this reason acts as a “last stop” and meeting place for folks to meet their basic needs, wind down, and connect with their community. Project Requirements: Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to attend this project. If you plan to bring guests you MUST reserve slots for them. The best way to do this is to create a Volunteer Team, then sign up your team for this project. IMPORTANT NOTE: You are responsible for ensuring that everyone signed up through your team attends - only sign up team members who have confirmed their availability. Teams that repeatedly sign up, but do not show up or show up with fewer volunteers than they signed up, may be removed. To add or remove team members from a project, click on "My Account" and then "My Teams," above. Click "Sign Up" below to reserve your spot! Need help signing up? Email [email protected].

Great Pumpkin Toss

There are a number of ways you can dispose of your Halloween pumpkin - you can put it in your compost pile, you can put it in your yard debris container for curbside collection, or... you can toss it off the training tower at the Westlake Fire Station!

Bring your pumpkins, carved or not, to Westlake Park, 14165 Bunick Drive, on November 1 between 2 and 5 p.m. to take part in this free, fun event. Participants will climb the tower and toss their pumpkin to a target below.

Hosted by the Lake Oswego Fire Department, and joined by Lake Oswego Police and Library, this event supports Hunger Fighters Oregon (www.hungerfightersoregon.org), a small food pantry located in Lake Oswego dedicated to providing food and essential household items at no cost to those in need. To help, please bring a donation of non-expired, non-perishable food items. Thanksgiving/holiday foods and ingredients such as mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, broth, and pie/bread mix are appreciated.

Magic Tea Party: A Live D&D Comedy Show

Fuse Theatre Ensemble - The Back Door Theater4319 Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard

In this live Dungeons and Dragons show, comedians and performers take to the stage to play some theater games, share some jokes, and play some D&D.

This season of Magic Tea Party, you will join Dungeon Master Juliet Mylan, who will lead:

  • Cosmo Reynolds (as Joey, just some guy with a ukulele that frequents Portland open mics)
  • Jenna Britann (as Holbrook, a 165,786,084 yr old dilophosaurus),
  • Riley McCarthy (as Enoch "Nucky" Fallstar, an apostle of the doomsday cult Threshold of Paradise with some unorthodox powers)

Audience members will take part in controlling the players' fate as they navigate an AU magical Portland in a series of side quests to gather magical artifacts for MOMSI (that's Magical OMSI for the layperson). The show can include strong adult themes and language, so if you bring your 8-year-old, just know they may learn something you were hoping to discuss with them after they hit puberty. Recommended for ages 16+ and parental guidance for those younger.

Small concessions booth with snacks, sodas, seltzers, beer, and wine available at the show. A coffee shop is located in front of the theater, and beverages are welcome in the theater. Tickets are GAYAF (Give As You’re Able Friend) with a suggested donation of $20 to compensate the performers and keep this independent LGBTQ theater running.

Tigard Free Food Market (age 15+) Referral

Join us at our monthly Tigard Free Food Markets! The Free Food Market is our food pantry event on the first Monday of each month where we provide food to community members in need each month. These events are free to the public and barrier free - which means we do not ask for participant info when they come to get food. The door opens at 1:30pm for community members to come in and receive food. We need volunteers the day of event: -We need 4 volunteers in the morning shift to help with processing the donated food, dividing the produces into small portions, setting them up on tables, event set up, etc. -We need 5 volunteers in the afternoon shift to help with distributing food to community members, crowd control, event break down and clean up, etc. The ODHS mission is to help Oregonians in their own communities achieve well-being and independence through opportunities that protect, empower, respect choice, and preserve dignity. The dedication of volunteers plays a vital role in our work, helping the agency fulfill its mission and achieve its goals for Oregonians. Your support strengthens our impact, allowing us to better serve the community and make a meaningful difference. Volunteers will gain knowledge about how ODHS helps community members in need and what they can do if they'd like to help at other food pantries in the area. They will also learn about day-of-event coordination skills. Opportunity Requirements: Volunteers must be 15 years of age or older to participate in this opportunity; any volunteer under age 18 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone. Click on "Express Interest" below if you are interested in helping out! **This is a Referral Opportunity, which means it is run directly by one of our nonprofit partners.
