Brett Goldstein: Sex, Death & Small Talk
British breakthrough Brett Goldstein has swiftly cemented his status as a formidable creative force, both on and off screen.
Goldstein most recently starred opposite Jennifer Lopez in the Netflixâs irreverent romantic comedy âOffice Romance,â which he also co-wrote and produced alongside Joe Kelly. The film immediately soared to the No. 1 spot globally, drawing an astonishing 20.9 million views in its opening weekend.
He also continues to push creative boundaries as co-creator and executive producer of the cathartic comedy âShrinking,â alongside Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence. The Emmy-nominated Apple TV series is currently in production on its fourth season. In addition to his work behind the scenes, Goldsteinâs pivotal guest performance has drawn widespread critical acclaim. His contributions to the series have earned him a BAFTA TV Craft Award nomination for âWriter: Comedy,â a SAG Award nomination for âOutstanding Ensemble,â and a 2024 WGA nomination for âNew Series.â
Goldstein first broke through as writer, executive producer, and star of the Apple TV phenomenon âTed Lasso,â set to return for its fourth season in August. His brash yet lovable performance as Roy Kent previously earned him two consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards for âBest Supporting Actor in a Comedyâ â the first back-to-back win in the category in nearly 15 years. He also received a Critics Choice Award, Golden Globe nomination, and shared in the SAG Award for âOutstanding Ensemble,â along with the WGA Awards for âBest Comedy Seriesâ and âBest New Series.â
Most recently, it was announced that Goldstein will create and star in the male escort comedy series âEscortedâ for Amazon MGM Studios. This is on the heels of bringing his signature charm and sharp wit to HBO with his first stand-up special, âThe Second Best Night of Your Life,â following a sold-out North American tour. The special earned him nominations at the 2026 Golden Globe Awards and Critics Choice Awards.
In film, Goldstein stars in KornĂ©l MundruczĂłâs latest drama âAt the Seaâ alongside Amy Adams and Murray Bartlett, which had its world premiere at the 2026 Berlin Film Festival. He also lent his voice to Craig Mazinâs animated feature âThe Sheep Detectivesâ for Amazon MGM Studios. This follows his devasting performance opposite Imogen Poots in âAll of You,â a humorous and heart-wrenching romantic drama he also co-wrote and produced. The film premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, later screened at BFI London, and is now streaming on Apple TV.
The tour de force also hosts the iHeartRadio award-winning podcast âFilms to Be Buried With,â which finds him in candid, often hilarious conversations with special guests as they discuss the films that have shaped them.
He has no time for dinner.

Soccer Mommy
Join an intimate evening featuring a pre-show discussion and Q&A with Soccer Mommy and special Guest Interviewer, followed by a local opener and solo performance by Soccer Mommy. This event is hosted by Papertrees Creative, in partnership with Literary Arts and the Portland Book Festival 2026.
Sophie Allison has always written candidly about her life, making Soccer Mommy one of indie rockâs most interesting and beloved artists of the last decade. Allison has used Soccer Mommyâs songs as a vehicle to sort through the thoughts and encounters that inevitably come with the reality of growing up. After all, Soccer Mommy began as a bedroom-to-Bandcamp exercise with teenage Allison posting her plaintive songs as demos. Over the years, though, she has often enhanced that sound, using the endless production possibilities, newly at her fingertips, to outstrip singer-songwriter stereotypes. The records would start with songwritingâs kernels of truth, and she would then imagine all the unexpected shapes they could take. Every Soccer Mommy record has felt like a surprise.
On Soccer Mommyâs fourth album, the tender but resolute Evergreen, Allison is again writing about her life. But that lifeâs different these days: Since making her previous album, 2022âs Sometimes, Forever, Allison experienced a profound and also very personal loss. New songs emerged from that change, unflinching and sometimes even funny reflections on what she was feeling. (Speaking of funny, this is a Soccer Mommy album, so thereâs an ode to Allisonâs purple-haired wife in the game Stardew Valley, too.) These songs were, once again, Allisonâs way to sort through life, to ground herself. She wanted them to sound that way, too, to feel as true to the demosâraw and relatable, unvarnished and honestâas possible. The songwriting would again lead where the production would follow. Nothing overindulgent, everything real.

Hough can also add best-selling author to his list of credits. His memoir Taking the Lead; Lessons from a Life in Motion hit stands in August 2014 and rapidly was named to the prestigious New York Times Best-Seller list during two non-consecutive time periods, a rare feat.
In 2021 and 2022, Hough headlined his residency Derek Hough: No Limit in the entertainment capital of the world, Las Vegas, Nevada. Sienna Spiro: My House Tour
London-born singer and songwriter SIENNA SPIRO announces the âMy Houseâ tour, including an extensive North American fall run followed by dates in Asia, Australia, New Zealand, UK and Europe.
Just last week, SIENNA released the official music video for her enthralling single âThe Visitor.â Written and produced by SIENNA with Omer Fedi (SZA, Lil Nas X) and Michael Pollack (Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus), the song draws its power from a spellbinding vocal recorded in one take, lyrics that cut to the bone, and a 20-piece string orchestra led and arranged by Academy Award-winner Peter Rotter (Oppenheimer, The Last Repair Shop). While SIENNAâs poetry and the video nod to matters of the heart, by the songâs end, we sense that sheâs singing about something more: a strong awareness of impermanence â of things ending and people leaving â that can quickly turn into paralyzing fear. That sentiment is the driving force behind the concept that powers Visitor, the album.
Of course, SIENNA is very much here to stay. Her music has amassed over 1.2 billion global streams so far and, in late March, she had a trio of singles climbing the Hot 100 all at once: âThe Visitorâ (which so far peaked at #43), heartwrenching UK Platinum smash âDie On This Hillâ (#19), and the enduring âYou Stole The Showâ (#55). All three are set to appear on Visitor, which was executive produced by Fedi with additional production from an elite crew including Blake Slatkin, Yakob, and Pollack, plus composers like Larry Gold (Al Green, Silk Sonic) and Rotter. SIENNA and her hand-picked collaborators brought her vision to life in an array of legendary spaces like Electric Lady Studios in New York, Abbey Road Studios in London, and Valentine Recording Studios in Los Angeles.

Oregon Koto-Kai Fall Concert
On Sunday, November 1st, Oregon Koto-Kai, the Japanese Koto Music Society of Oregon, will present its 15th Annual Fall Concert. This yearâs concert will feature traditional and modern koto ensemble pieces selected to honor the koto mastery and memory of the late Kazue Sawai. The music will be complemented by beautiful art on stage created by local artist Satoko Motouji.
Kazue Sawai cofounded the Sawai Koto Institute based in Tokyo, Japan with her husband, koto master and composer Tadao Sawai. Not only was she the instructor and mentor to our Artistic Director, Mitsuki Dazai, but her passion and innovative playing style was an inspiration to our entire group and koto players worldwide. Our program honors that legacy with traditional pieces signature to her repertoire and boundary-pushing compositions from the Sawai catalog.
Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812
From the celebrated and award-winning composer Dave Malloy comes Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812, an electropop opera based on a scandalous slice of Leo Tolstoyâs War and Peace. Young and impulsive, Natasha Rostova arrives in Moscow to await the return of her fiancĂ© from the front lines. When she falls under the spell of the roguish Anatole, it is up to Pierre, a family friend in the middle of an existential crisis, to pick up the pieces of her shattered reputation. Following a critically exalted premiere at Ars Nova in New York City, a subsequent off-Broadway transfer and an acclaimed run on Broadway, this award-winning musical expands the possibilities for the genre with its daring score and bold storytelling.

Penn and Teller
From humble beginnings 50 years ago busking on the streets of Philadelphia, to acclaimed soldâout runs on Broadway and renown as the longest-running and one of the most-beloved resident headline acts in Las Vegas history, magicâs legendary duo â Penn Jillette and Teller â continue to defy labels (and at times physics and good taste), by redefining the genre of magic and inventing their own very distinct niche in comedy.
The current hit series Penn & Teller: Fool Us! for The CW Network, on which up-and-comers and magic veterans try to fool Penn & Teller for a chance to star in the pairâs hit Las Vegas stage show, was nominated for a Criticsâ Choice Award and has been renewed for an unprecedented 12th season. The show is the longest continual American magic television series in history, introducing the art to new fans and cultivating new generations of innovators within the craft.
Twice named âMagicians of the Yearâ by the Academy of Magical Arts, the equivalent of the Oscars in magic, they were named the 2024 Masters Fellowship recipients, the highest honor the Academy bestows. The pair live in Las Vegas, where they are engaged in their community, acting as honorary chairmen for AFAN (Aid for AIDS Nevada), raising and donating nearly $2 million and serving as grand marshals for AFANâs annual Las Vegas AIDS Walk for the past 23 years. Through their involvement with Opportunity Village, which assists in employment placement and lifestyle betterment for those living with intellectual disabilities, they have raised over $1 million. The annual blood drive, Penn & Tellerâs 13 Bloody Days of Christmas, has resulted in over 85,000 donors since its inception. In 2023, they took part in the USOâs annual Christmas tour, entertaining thousands of servicemen and servicewomen in bases across Europe.
In 2025, the pair celebrated 50 years as innovators in combining smart, edgy comedy with their unique magical style.
Singles Give Back: Special Olympics Oregon Swim Competition Volunteering
Letâs spend a Sunday doing some good and getting to know each other along the way! Join our 30s & 40s Singles Group to support athletes at Special Olympics Oregonâs Beaverton Regional Aquatics competition on Sunday, November 1.
Expect swimming, teamwork, plenty of cheering, and a chance to connect with other community-minded singles. The event coordinator is excited to have our group help!
We have two exciting ways to participate based on how involved you want to be.
đ Path 1: Come volunteer directly with us
No sports knowledge, athletic ability, or previous volunteer experience needed. The Special Olympics Oregon team will train you onsite and assign your role at check-in.
You might help with:
- Athlete escorts: Guide swimmers from staging to their lanes and then to awards.
- Timing: Time races and call the finish order.
- Results: Deliver and record race results.
- Awards: Prepare medals and ribbons and help with presentations.
- Developmental skills: Help with staging, escorting, and timing for the morning skills competition.
Have relevant experience? Let the team know at check-in!
You can choose between a full-day shift of about 8â9 hours or a half-day shift of about 4â4.5 hours, depending on availability.
All volunteers receive a Special Olympics Oregon T-shirt, and full-day volunteers receive lunch.
đ How to join as a volunteer
- RSVP here so we know youâre joining our Meetup group.
- Register directly with Special Olympics Oregon and choose your shift (link here or in comments). Your Meetup RSVP alone does not reserve a volunteer spot.
- Watch for a Meetup message from me! Iâll check in to confirm your shift, help with questions, and coordinate our group.
Please register promptly if youâd like to volunteer, since shifts have limited spaces. Follow the arrival and check-in instructions for your selected shift.
đ A small commitment that makes a big difference
The event team relies on registered volunteers to keep the competition running smoothly. Please choose a shift you can commit to attending in full and plan ahead for the day.
Of course, unexpected things happen! If you can no longer volunteer, please notify the Special Olympics coordinator promptly, update your volunteer registration, and update your Meetup RSVP too. Keeping everyone informed as timely as possible gives the team time to adjust.
đŁ Path 2: Prefer to cheer? Join the audience!
You can also support the athletes from the sidelines. If committing to volunteering in a shift isnât the right fit, or the shifts have filled, come enjoy the competition and help us give the swimmers an enthusiastic audience!
Please let me know whether youâre volunteering or coming to cheer, so I can coordinate our group. Only people registered directly with Special Olympics Oregon will be counted as volunteers.
Which ever path you choose, weâre happy to have you!
Come lend a hand, bring your cheering voice, and spend a Sunday supporting our greater Portland community. đ

About Bingâs Cherries:
A modern American tall tale woven by a girl and her father about Ah Bing, the Chinese immigrant behind the Pacific Northwestâs most delicious cherries.
Youâve heard of a Bing cherry, but did you know the story of the Chinese American immigrant for whom the dark, luscious cherry is named?
Long ago, Ah Bing was a father who travelled across the sea from China looking for work. It was in Oregon where he met a man who hired him to work in his orchards, where eventually, Bing cultivated the delicious cherries we know of today.
But what was it that made this man and the cherries he made so special?âŻa young girl wonders as she sits together with her father, enjoying cherries from their backyard. Weaving together cultural memory, historical fact, and her own imagination, the young girl imagines a narrative of Ah Bing that is as larger than life and as sweet as his namesake.
With touching text and lush illustrations, Livia Blackburne and Julia Kuo forge an unforgettable Chinese American folktale that has largely been untold. The backmatter includes a letter from the author and illustrator, as well as a recipe!

Maybe he can be a trombone player, or a cartoonistâif thatâs even a real job. But as Pedro learns more about his parentsâ and abuelitoâs past, and the choices they made in order to open up more choices for him, he starts to understand that freedom isnât just about leaving the fieldsâitâs about knowing where you came from and having the courage to draw your own life.

The Ben Wolfe Trio with Nicole Glover and Ron Steen
TICKETS $50 | ALL AGES
Ben Wolfe - bass
Nicole Glover - saxophone
Ron Steen - drums
We are thrilled to welcome home two of Portland's favored jazz musicians; acclaimed bassist, Ben Wolfe and renowned saxophonist, Nicole Glover. The two will be joined by beloved local jazz legend, Ron Steen for a homecoming show you won't want to miss!
Wolfe has performed and recorded with some of the most celebrated names in jazz and popular music, including Harry Connick Jr., Diana Krall, Wynton Marsalis, and many others. A respected player, composer and Julliard educator, Ben is one of todayâs most accomplished jazz bassists. Wolfe brings an extraordinary depth of experience, musicianship, and creativity to the stage.
Joining him is Nicole Glover, whose powerful, adventurous saxophone playing has made her one of the most exciting voices in contemporary jazz. Nicole is a saxophonist, bandleader, composer, and educator based in New York City. In 2026, Nicole was awarded âUp and Coming Musician of the Yearâ by the Jazz Journalists Association and #1 Rising Star Tenor Saxophonist & #1 Rising Star Soprano Saxophonist by Downbeat Magazine. Nicole is also a sought-after collaborator. She is currently touring with groups led by Christian McBride and Renee Rosnes, including the multi-award winning ARTEMIS. She has also toured and recorded with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Additionally, Nicole has worked under the leadership of drummers Al Foster, Billy Hart, Lenny White, Victor Lewis, Kenny Washington, Carl Allen, Gregory Hutchinson, and Joe Farnsworth; Grammy-winning vocalists Dee Dee Bridgewater and Buika; bassists John Patitucci, Reggie Workman, Harish Raghavan, Ben Wolfe, and Or Bareket; vibraphonist Joel Ross; and pianists Bill Charlap, Geoffrey Keezer, Aaron Diehl, Luis Perdomo, Christian Sands, Micah Thomas, and George Colligan, among others.
Alongside these two will be Portland's hometown favorite, Ron Steen, whose decades of contribution to the cityâs jazz scene have earned him legendary status. Drummer, bandleader, Ron is known as the Godfather of the Jazz Jam scene in Portland, Oregon. Writes the JJAâs Rick Mitchell: âThe jam session is at the heart of the jazz tradition. While high school and college jazz programs have proliferated in recent decades, there is no substitute for the knowledge gained by sharing a bandstand with oneâs elders and peers in an exposed and competitive setting." Ron has built and nurtured that philosophy in Portland for decades.
Three exceptional musicians. Two shows. One unforgettable night of jazz. Donât miss this special 1905 performance!
