The supervising surgeon, however, decides to amputate Orlac’s ruined hands and replace them with the hands of a recently executed prisoner who was serving time for murder. Once the pianist recovers and realizes that his hands are those of a killer, he becomes too distraught to resume his career and begins to question his sanity. Who is that strange man who is shadowing him? Why do his hands seem to have a life of their own?

Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World (2026)

Portland Art Museum1219 Southwest Park Avenue

If poetry had a pop icon, Mary Oliver would be it. Best-selling poet and Pulitzer Prize-winner, lover of dogs and long walks in the woods, queer and out but intensely private—Oliver’s poems inspire liberals and conservatives, atheists and believers, naturalists and urbanites. She was America’s unlikely, contemporary mystic, stalking the ponds and forests of Cape Cod for nearly fifty years in order to open herself—and us, her readers—to the known and unknowable world. Sasha Waters’ beguiling portrait features poems read by Helena Bonham Carter, Steve Buscemi, Stephen Colbert, Lucy Dacus, Jesse Welles, and Oprah Winfrey.

The Umbrae Noctis Festival is elated to announce 3 different movement workshops with the illustrious headliners and feature performers. Take class with local sensation Asteria Atombomb, Burlesque Hall of Fame title holder Moscato Sky, and/or Dragula season 4 runner-up Throb Zombie.

November 14: Are you stuck doing the same repetitive movements onstage? Trying to tell a story but can't find the actions to fit the narrative? Then this workshop is for you! Asteria will use her decades of experience in dance, theater, and artistic direction to help you create a compelling act. Through a series of dance and improvisational exercises, attendees will explore various ways to incorporate movement into a compelling storyline. This class is designed for students with a movement background or previous chair and floor work experience and may not be appropriate for people with serious knee and back injuries. However, all levels are welcome as this class acts as a lab and encourages exploration. Wear yoga or dance clothes you can move freely in. Knee pads are encouraged but not required.

Rainbow Exhale | EFT Meditation and Sound Journey

Breathing Room Yoga + Meditation Studio5291 NE Elam Young Pkwy Suite #130

There is something powerful about being able to exhale in a space where you know you are welcome. Rainbow Exhale is a queer and trans-centered sound journey created for LGBTQIA+ community members and allies. The experience begins with a guided EFT meditation, followed by progressive muscle relaxation to help release tension and settle into the present moment. From there, the session opens into a carefully composed sound bath using crystal singing bowls and other gentle acoustic instruments.

Each sound and instrument is chosen intentionally, with the session unfolding through a progression of tones, textures, rhythms, and silence. The experience offers space for deep rest, reflection, and restoration, with time to slow down, listen, and notice what arises. No experience with EFT, meditation, or sound healing is necessary. Whether you're deeply familiar with these practices or trying them for the first time, you're invited to get comfortable and let yourself be guided through the experience.

Led by Charlie Sebastian Short, a queer, BIPOC, and neurodivergent sound healing practitioner and professional musician, Rainbow Exhale is a trauma-aware space created with LGBTQIA+ community members in mind. Allies are warmly welcome. While many items are available to borrow, feel free to bring any comfort items, such as a favorite pillow, squishmallow, eye mask, or anything else that helps you get comfortable... then give yourself some room to breathe.

This is a pay-what-you-can (PWYC) or sliding-scale event.

Tire Rack Street Survival - Portland OR

At Portland International Raceway in Portland, Tire Rack Street Survival offers practical, hands-on driver training for teens that focuses on car control, smart decision making, quicker reactions, and increased awareness of other drivers. Students practice in their own cars with a coach to explore handling limits and build real-world skills that support safer driving. The day blends classroom learning with extensive seat time. Across roughly two hours split into three classroom sessions, students cover proper seating and hand position, mirror setup, how tire contact patches and weight transfer influence grip, using long-range vision, and overall situational awareness. Common distractions such as music, phones, and carrying multiple passengers are addressed. Most of the day is spent behind the wheel working through scenarios that mirror everyday hazards. Depending on space and conditions, activities can include skid recovery on a wetted surface, quick lane-change maneuvers to avoid obstacles, hard braking with ABS practice, a slalom to feel weight transfer, recovering when two wheels leave the pavement, and maintaining safe following distances. When possible, a semi-truck blind spot demonstration shows how many nearby vehicles disappear from view inside the cab, and an airbag deployment demo reinforces safe hand placement. Parents are encouraged to spend the day with their student. They may sit in on the classroom portions, and instructors are available throughout to answer questions about the exercises. Lunch is provided for students, parents, and volunteers, with additional educational demos during the break. The course fee is $175.

Shu Lea Cheang Shorts & Fresh Kill x Lesbian Cinema Club

PAM CUT's Tomorrow Theater3530 Southeast Division Street

Shu Lea Cheang is an artist, conceptualist, filmmaker, and networker who has worked in the field of net-based installation, social interface, networked performance, and film production. Her work traverses between hard and soft, sex and politics, fiction and reality, fantasia and earth-bound.

Fresh Kill (1hr 20min) 1996: Shareen and Claire, a lesbian couple living on Staten Island, find themselves ensnared in a vast conspiracy involving a ghost ship of nuclear refuse, ominous television commercials, and deadly cat food.

SEX FISH (6mins) 1993: An erotic lesbian video involving swimming upstream, female power, and fish love. Made as a collaboration under the name E.T. (Ela Troyano) Baby (Jane Castle) Maniac (Cheang). “In Sex Fish water provides the common denominator for nature imagery and explicit sex. Unlike 1970s feminist imagery, however, nature is sexualized rather than sex naturalized. Dripping from the faucet, spraying against a shower curtain, swirling down a toilet, water leads viewers from one sex scene to another, private to public and back again. Swimming through the video are various fish, seemingly unaware of the derogatory pun they enact, and all gulping enviously as cunnilingus surrounds them.” —Chris Straayer, Deviant Eyes, Deviant Bodies: Sexual Re-orientations in Film and Video (New York: Columbia University Press, 1996)

SEX BOWL (7:43 mins) 1994: All forms of human sport become sites for sexual play and celebratory eroticism.

“The tape’s images are quick, suggestive, and sexy: fingers moving into bowling balls, shoe-smelling and toe-sucking, a dog wearing chain jewelry, fish being wrapped at the market, young naked couples having sex…. Edited like a music video, the image track is a constant flow of fetishes that lure us into the promiscuous pace of girls who keep lists of their sexual encounters.” —Chris Straayer, Deviant Eyes, Deviant Bodies: Sexual Re-orientations in Film and Video (New York: Columbia University Press, 1996)

FINGERS AND KISSES (4:35 mins) 1995: Cheang has taken her camera to the streets for a candid glimpse of lesbian public sexuality. If Asian women and lesbians share a certain amount of invisibility in the culture, Fingers and Kisses offers not only a bold representation of both, but a challenge to the question “What do lesbians do?” Tokyo’s own out-and-loud music by Chu punctuates the narrative as what begins in the streets continues under the sheets.

COMING HOME (5mins) 1995: This humorous video begins with two women—one white, the other Asian—attempting to fit into a Japanese bathtub. The awkward fitting of bodies into a small space is just one of the allegorical scenarios dramatized in a pressing appeal for lesbian rights. In a game of hanafuda (flower cards), the terms of lesbian domesticity are cleverly played out according to such legalities as joint property, social security, and pensions.

Fall Festival of Shakespeare

Winningstad Theatre1111 Southwest Broadway

The Fall Festival of Shakespeare is a non-competitive region-wide collaboration between Portland Playhouse and area middle and high schools. The Festival is a spectacular theatrical event, in part because student actors connect well with Shakespeare; they understand the passion, the high stakes, and the disaster. High school and middle school are not unlike an Elizabethan Tragedy.

The students are not only performers in the festival, but a large and vocal component of the audience. They are the most active and vibrant theater patrons you will ever encounter. They “oooh” and “ahhh”; call out “Oh no, she didn’t”; scream and laugh. It’s the closest thing to how an Elizabethan audience at Shakespeare’s Globe might have reacted.

C*ntry Pizza Overtime Brotherhusbands

C*ntry is a Seattle-based queer pop-rock trio comprised of MJ Jurgensen on lead vocals and guitar, Sophie Pattison on bass, and Katrin Fabian on drums. C*ntry plays a mix of original tunes and covers ranging from Chappell Roan to the Cranberries.

PIZZA OVERTIME hails from Portland, Oregon (hail satan) consisting of 5 gay babies. A sillycore characature of all of your favorite genres. Think: all of your intrusive thoughts said out loud. Think: sitting on the toilet dreaming for the fall of capitalism. Think: crying and eating hotdogs while watching the twilight saga...WITH MY BEST FRIENDS.

BROTHERHUSBANDS was created by three friends who wanted to share their love for each other far and wide. Three friends who found so much joy in music individually, that when they first jammed together, it all fell in place. They're as close as brothers, but only two of them are men. They're as devoted to each other as husbands. They're so underground, their music can't even be streamed. You can only be a fan of BROTHERHUSBANDS if you've seen them live - and we do hope that you will. Playing genreless music that sounds something like Weezer doing a Britney Spears cover, we hope that you find as much joy and silliness in their music as they had creating it.

Mx. Dahlia Belle (live comedy taping)

With "Affirmed," the princess of Portland comedy, Mx. Dahlia Belle (Netflix, MSNBC, the Moth) delivers 60-minutes of stand-up that celebrates and affirms the awkward silliness of being human in the modern world. Through a combination of the wholesome and mundane, anecdotes about house cats, licentious foibles of the LGBT community, and an unapologetic account of her personal journey with gender-affirming care, all delivered with her trademark free-form wit, she renders the unfamiliar relatable and the relatable extraordinary (and extraordinarily funny). "Affirmed" is a love letter to the misfits, outcasts, weirdos, loners, and Mx. Belle's custom-made vagina.

Also featuring an opening set by Ally J Ward (Portland’s Funniest Person 2025).

Apple Pie Concert

On November 10, 2026, Skyview High School Band and Dance Program (SVBD) hosts their annual Apple Pie Concert. This is a free concert open to the public honoring and thanking veterans for their service. Veterans are invited to attend and will be provided a free slice of pie & coffee. Additional pies, slices, pastries, desserts, and beverages will also be available for purchase to the general public to raise funds to support our band and dance program.

SVBD has a long history of performance excellence through music and dance. To continue this robust program for our students, we rely not only on our parents, extended families and students to raise money, but also on the generosity of our community and local businesses to sustain our program. With over 100+ students, SVBD consists of the Fall Marching Band & Guard (dance team), Winter Guard, Winter Percussion, two Jazz Bands, three Concert Bands (Concert, Symphonic and Wind Ensemble), a Spring Parade Marching Band & Guard, and pep bands for school events. These bands and dance teams put in countless hours to compete and perform for the community throughout the year. Skyview High School is the last school in Clark County to offer competitive Marching Band & Guard, Winter Guard, and Winter Percussion.

Through fundraising and community support, SVBD keeps the bands and dance teams supplied with the necessary support to keep the program functioning at a competitive level. SVBD assists with instructor fees, show design costs, musical and dance equipment, uniforms, maintenance costs of travel trailers to haul show equipment, and travel costs for the many competitions and events they participate in each year. For all opportunities, SVBD is proud to fund scholarships ensuring that financial need is never a barrier to a student’s experience.

Thank you in advance for joining us and for supporting our students and band program as they continue to grow and thrive.
