Egg Pasta with Chef Leta

Join Leta Merrill, chef and pasta maker extraordinaire, for an evening of mixing, rolling, shaping and eating delicious pasta! At this class, we’ll be making an egg pasta dough from scratch. We will talk about different types of pasta doughs, cover info on sourcing the best ingredients, and get plenty of hands-on time to shape. We’ll work on shapes like fettucini, farfalle, garganelli, and more.

What to expect:

  • Class will include all instruction, tools, recipes and ingredients.

  • Our dough will contain wheat flour and eggs. Our sauce may include dairy. Please contact us before registering if you have an allergy or intolerance to these ingredients.

  • There will be some demo, and lots of time for hands-on pasta shaping.

  • Wine, beer, and kombucha available for purchase.

  • Class will end with samples of pasta, and each participant will leave with a box of the pasta they made during class.

About our instructor:

Leta Merrill is a chef, mother, teacher, and pastaia. She discovered her love of pasta as a child over Sunday suppers at her Sicilian great-grandmother’s home. She decided to follow her passion for food and cooking and enrolled at the Oregon Culinary Institute. Upon graduating, she took a job as pasta cook at Union Square Cafe in New York, one of the city’s most popular restaurants. There, she honed her skills, grew a thicker skin, and continued her passion for pasta. Leta now lives in Portland, and spends her time cooking, eating, traveling, teaching pasta workshops, and preparing pasta from her designer kitchen. You can follow her work, sign up for workshops, and order custom pasta via her website and follow her adventures in pasta on Instagram @pastamaia.

The Lost Table

El Zócalo537 SE Stark Street

The Portland Grief House invites you to join The Lost Table, a welcoming space to gather in community, remember those we’ve lost, and share in the traditions that help us keep them close. Bring a dish, pull up a chair, and make a place at the table for the dead. Grief can be hard to understand, and sometimes what we need most is community, ritual, conversation, and food.

Together, we’ll explore how different cultures and traditions call to, honor, and make offerings to those who have died. In the spirit of Día de Muertos, we’ll create a shared space where the living and the dead can gather around the same table.

We’ll begin with a creative activity led by Mario Mesquita, inviting us to reflect on memory, food, and our relationships with those we’ve lost. Participants will be introduced to the ritual elements that will carry us through the evening.

Laura Green will lead a community conversation about intercultural traditions of Día de Muertos and other ways communities call to and remember their dead. Participants will have an opportunity to share stories, traditions, and memories, and to dedicate an offering to someone they have lost.

Bea Yeh will introduce the tradition of Hungry Ghost and lead us in making an offering to the dead. We’ll set places at our table for those who are no longer with us and share food as an act of remembrance and connection.

Our community offerings and tributes will be gathered at Ximena Morales’s altar, creating a shared space of remembrance that connects the different traditions and offerings brought into the room.

Throughout the evening, we’ll create something together through words, offerings, and remembrance. We’ll dedicate a community poem to the dead and close our gathering with a collective ritual of words, sound, and stillness.

Please bring:

  • A dish to share, plus any serving utensils it needs. Consider bringing something that reminds you of a loved one or connects you to a family or cultural tradition.
  • Please label your food with a card identifying any allergens or dietary considerations.
  • Your own dinnerware (plate, bowl, utensils, napkin).
  • A beverage for yourself, if you’d like something other than water.
  • A photograph, name, or other small tribute to a loved one for the community altar, if you’d like.
  • Please do not bring chips, salsa, or guacamole—Milagro will provide these.

The Portland Grief House is honored to continue this tradition, originally started by Side Yard Farm. El Centro Milagro is excited to partner with Portland Grief House to create a space for English- and Spanish-speaking community members to gather, remember, share traditions, and honor the dead together.

The Portland Pollinator Harvest Party

133 Southeast Salmon Street133 SE Salmon St

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between a native bee and a honey bee? Or wondered what they do all day? Have you dreamed of becoming a beekeeper, wanted to plant more flowers for our winged friends, or wished you could taste honey fresh from the comb? Well, this is the event for you.

Join Bee The Change Landcare for a morning of bee-loving curiosity, hands-on learning, and community connection, alongside some wonderful local educators, makers, and pollinator enthusiasts. Bees are woven into so much of everyday life, from the fruit on the table to the flowers blooming along the sidewalks. Yet there is so much happening in their little worlds that people rarely get to see. Peek into those worlds, explore what it means to be in a reciprocal relationship with bees, and learn how we can cultivate more resilient gardens, ecosystems, and food systems for pollinators and people.

  • Discover the difference between native and honeybees and how planting flowers, food, and habitat can support healthy pollinator populations right in your own neighborhood
  • Get your hands into the world of native bees. Join Bee The Change and Portland Fruit Tree Project for a community Mason bee cocoon harvest. Learn how to safely harvest, clean, and store cocoons so the next generation is ready for spring.
  • Taste the sweetness of the season. Join Bee The Change and Bee Built for a freshly crushed honeycomb demonstration, honey tasting, and conversation about thoughtful honey bee stewardship.
  • Meet your local pollinator community. Explore beautiful bee houses and hives from Bee Built, preserves and opportunities to get involved with Portland Fruit Tree Project, garden signs from Sharotonin Signs, and local honey and stewardship opportunities from Bee The Change.

Have a Mason bee house at home? Bring your filled nesting reeds or trays for harvest. No bee house? No problem. Come learn, get your hands a little sticky, and make some new bee-loving friends
