About this event

Season 103 begins with a program filled with color, rhythm, and extraordinary storytelling. Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, featuring guitarist Gwenyth Aggeler, stands as one of the most beloved concertos of the twentieth century, celebrated for its unforgettable melodies and emotional depth. Turina’s La procesión del Rocío paints a vivid portrait of a Spanish religious festival, while Carlos Chávez’s Sinfonía India draws upon Indigenous Mexican melodies and percussion traditions to create one of the most distinctive orchestral works in the repertoire.

Completing the program is Ostinato by Portland Youth Philharmonic’s student composer Alejandro Belgique, a work driven by rhythmic momentum and contemporary energy. Together, these pieces create an opening night that is vibrant, expressive, and full of movement, setting the tone for a season that celebrates discovery, connection, and the excitement of live orchestral music.
