Mahler’s Symphony No. 6

Get ready for a profound journey with the Oregon Symphony. David Danzmayr conducts Mahler’s colossal Symphony No. 6, also known as the “Tragic.” This piece, Mahler’s ambition to “embrace the whole,” moves from deathly foreboding marches to ecstatic declarations of love for his wife, Alma. It’s powerful stuff.

You’ll experience a dark carnival “Scherzo” alongside a sunlit lyrical interlude evoking peaceful Alpine meadows. The symphony’s theatrical finale builds to titanic “hammer blows of fate,” said to represent tragic milestones in Mahler’s life. Expect no intermission for this intense performance. Go get lost in it.
