About this event

When power finds a way to live forever, freedom goes extinct.

Enter a chilling, near-future America where surveillance is total and Big Brother is not a distant symbol but a living, eternal presence. This terrifying, immersive adaptation of George Orwell’s 1984 places you inside the machinery of control as a President-figure consolidates power and immortality. Audience members are silent observers, seated amid the action, at the edge of their seats as liberty unravels.

MORE INFO: George Orwell’s famous novel has never felt so frightening. The Party’s slogans, rituals, and relentless surveillance have been localized to institutions and streets familiar to contemporary audiences. 1984 centers on the chilling ascent of an immortal, authoritarian President-figure who embodies Big Brother — a charismatic, manipulative ruler whose promised permanence tightens the regime’s grip. ETP’s immersive production places audiences alongside government offices, propaganda lounges, communal housing blocks, and interrogation chambers. Nevermind the cameras, microphones, and an ever-present gaze.

As private acts are monitored and public truth is rewritten, characters struggle with loyalty, resistance, and the crushing weight of enforced conformity. Intimate scenes — furtive love, coercive confession, psychological manipulation — unfold within arm’s reach. Large-scale set pieces and crowd-moments convey mass ritual and televised spectacle; sudden blackouts, loudspeaker announcements, and live-feed projections obliterate the boundary between spectator and state. Though surrounded by the world of the play, patrons remain non-participatory witnesses.

Content warnings:

- Political themes, authoritarian ideology, propaganda, and psychological manipulation

- Depictions of surveillance, interrogation, non-graphic violence, simulated sex and torture

- Intense scenes of coercion, emotional distress, and themes of oppression; strong language

- Use of flashing lights, loud noises, simulated surveillance audio, and occasional haze/smoke effects.

Recommended for ages 16+.
