About this event

Join backcountry skier Steve Hinkle as he recounts journeys in the Tetons, Winds, Sierra and Cascades, ranging from six to 15 days in duration. If you want stories of nail-biting descents down narrow couloirs, look elsewhere. Rather, you will immerse yourself in stories of normal people finding vast solitude and deep wilderness while skiing through awe-inspiring scenery. Cold starry nights and storms pass by as we ourselves pass through varied snowscapes in search of what lies around the next bend or over the next pass.

Steve Hinkle, an individual (not part of an organization) will present. He is a retired groundwater hydrologist (U.S. Geological Survey) and a not-yet-retired backcountry skier. The talk focuses on backcountry skiing, but seeks to be more than just another skiing slideshow by also bringing in the environment, including wildlife footage, observations of geology, and some humorous stories.
