About this event
Join us for Fridays@1 as Portland architect and educator Daniel Toole presents A Louis Kahn Pilgrimage, a personal exploration of Kahn’s architecture and its lasting influence in the Pacific Northwest. Through photographs and pastel drawings from his 2025 journey to Philadelphia, Toole shares reflections on visiting Kahn’s archives and buildings, tracing connections between architectural experience, drawing, and education.
The presentation follows a lineage that connects Kahn’s Philadelphia office to the University of Oregon, where Thomas Hacker and other former collaborators helped shape a generation of architects. A graduate of the University of Oregon and Harvard Graduate School of Design, Toole developed his interest in this legacy while working with architects taught by Hacker, including John Cava and Brad Cloepfil of Allied Works, before founding his own practice in 2020.

What is Friday@1?
On most Fridays at 1 p.m. during the academic term, PSU School of Architecture students and faculty gather to hear from professional designers and architects, academics, visiting artists, innovators, and students in the program. Friday@1 is a perfect way to wrap up each week of intense creativity in the studio and get inspired for the productive weekend ahead.
Free and open to the public. All are welcome.
