About this event

This screening of PUSHOUT: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools explores how Black girls experience disproportionate discipline, exclusion, and criminalization in educational systems. Through personal stories and expert perspectives, the documentary examines the biases, policies, and practices that affect young people’s experiences. After the film, students who have participated in MESD Bridges’ HerPath Program will discuss their perspectives on navigating educational and community systems, finding support, and what they wish adults and decision-makers understood. HerPath offers supportive spaces for girls and young women through facilitated groups focused on connection, identity, self-worth, leadership, and personal growth. The documentary addresses racism and discriminatory discipline, and some content may be emotionally challenging.
