Slamlandia ft. Jae Nichelle

Slamlandia features a poetry open mic and a two-round poetry slam, with a featured performance by Louisiana-born poet and slam champion Jae Nichelle. The open mic has 10 slots, and poets may share one or two poems, up to three minutes total. The slam also has 10 slots, with poets selected through a lottery. Poems are scored by five judges, and the five highest-scoring poets advance to the second round. Slam competitors earn qualifying-season points from July 2026 through January 2027. Nichelle is the author of Grownfolk Blues, God Themselves, and The Porch (As Sanctuary), and her work has appeared in publications including Best New Poets 2020, Washington Square Review, The Offing, and Muzzle Magazine. The venue has a step-free entrance, adjustable seating, and a first-floor bathroom. Masks are strongly encouraged, and anyone feeling ill is asked to stay home. Slamlandia’s safer-space policy prohibits hate, bigotry, harassment, and violence, and emphasizes consent around physical contact and personal conversations.
