About this event
Had Gadya: The Art of One Little Goat December 13, 2026 - April 18, 2026 Location: OJMCHE Menashe Gallery Share × " class="share-btn"> Share on Facebook &text=Had Gadya: The Art of One Little Goat" class="share-btn"> Share on Twitter Email Had Gadya: The Art of One Little Goat explores the rich visual history of the beloved Passover song “One Little Goat.” First appearing in a printed Haggadah in Prague in 1590, this playful song follows a chain of characters who each overtake the one before it. This exhibition brings together illustrated Haggadot and everything from decorated manuscripts and traditional prints to modern illustrations and graphic novels. Visitors will discover how artists such as Ben Shahn, Arthur Szyk, and other artists and illustrators, approached the song’s characters through their own styles, imaginations, and cultural experiences. Curated for OJMCHE by Kenny Helphand, University of Oregon Philip H. Knight Professor Emeritus of Landscape Architecture , some works tell the story scene by scene. Others explore deeper meanings through symbolism and abstraction. Presented alongside the exhibition Frank Stella, Had Gadya: Illustrations After El Lissitzky , these works offer a fascinating look at the creativity of Jewish artists and communities across generations, and the many ways art can give new life to a familiar tradition and reimagine its meaning. back
