About this event

Participants explore the art of sashiko by designing their own hana-fukin patterns with the help of traditional style stencils and simple hand stitches. Hana-fukin translates to flower cloth, a square embroidered textile commonly used in the home as a kitchen towel, tea cloth, or decorative accent. After sketching and transferring motifs to fabric, the group practices the steady running stitches that characterize sashiko, building confidence with geometric or nature based designs while developing a sense of pattern, rhythm, and symmetry. The session offers an unhurried setting to experiment with design and enjoy the calming, stitch by stitch process, resulting in a piece that reflects personal style. All materials are included.
