Exhibitor: Acre Knife

We are excited to host Acre Knife, a small team of bladesmiths crafting kitchen and outdoor knives in the St. Johns neighborhood!

They will demonstrate their new line of everyday hand-finished culinary knives and let shoppers try them for themselves.

About Acre

For years, a group of accomplished bladesmiths had devoted themselves to making exceptional knives. They had apprenticed, studied traditional techniques, experimented with materials, and developed their own methods. But they also knew how difficult it could be to build a life around that kind of work.

In 2023, Dane Tomseth set out to change that by creating a place where skilled makers could do serious work, earn a living, and keep getting better. That place became Acre Forge, a working production facility in North Portland’s St. Johns neighborhood where experienced makers share equipment, techniques, ideas, and a daily practice.

Their collective experience spans traditional Japanese techniques, modern design, metallurgy, ergonomics, culinary experience, woodworking, and machining. That shared foundation and the different paths that brought them to it is what shapes Acre’s knife lines: Macrum and Signature.

ARTHACK @ ADX

PortlandMap

ARTHACK is a monthly evening of discussion for computer enthusiasts and artists, hosted at ADX in Southeast Portland. The group talks about and shares work that explores the intersection of code, art, hardware, and society -- generative work, creative coding, physical computing, hardware hacking, net art, and the social questions that come with all of it. Bring a laptop and you can share something on the open projector: works in progress, experiments, failures, and half-finished ideas are all welcome alongside finished pieces. No experience with either art or code is required, and there is no formal program -- it is an informal, conversation-driven night for people who like making things with computers. Free and open to all. ADX is at 417 SE 11th Avenue, Portland. https://artdesignxchange.com/events/arthack-mtd89-53dw5

ADX November Community Night

ADXMap

ADX, the member-based maker and fabrication studio in Portland's Central Eastside, opens its doors for its monthly Community Night. These evenings are the low-commitment way into the space: a couple of open, social hours where current members, prospective members, and curious neighbors can walk through the woodshop, metal shop, and digital fabrication areas, meet the people who work there, and ask what it actually takes to build something. ADX has spent fifteen years as a shared workshop and teaching space for Portland makers, and Community Night is where that community is most visible from the outside. The ADX calendar listing gives the time and location only, so check the ADX site closer to the date for any demos, guests, or programming that get added. https://artdesignxchange.com/events/november-community-night
