Fall Author Series: Jeff VanderMeer In Conversation with A.L. Goldfuss
Jeff VanderMeer's internationally bestselling, critically acclaimed Southern Reach series has been translated into over 37 languages. The first novel, Annihilation, won the Nebula and Shirley Jackson awards, and was made into a movie by Alex Garland in 2018. Called "the weird Thoreau" by The New Yorker, VanderMeer’s nonfiction has appeared in Time, The Nation, the Los Angeles Times, and Esquire, among other publications.
A.L. Goldfuss writes speculative fiction which reviewers have called “rich,” “intense,” “complex,” and “rather grim.” Recent work has won the Brave New Weird award and appeared in The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy. Goldfuss lives in the Pacific Northwest with stacks of tea and carnivorous plants.
The Fall Author Series is co-sponsored by Spoke & Word Books. Special thanks to the Friends of the Ledding Library for providing the funding that makes this program possible.

Lace History & Technique Demonstration
Anna Guillemot, a member of the Portland Lace Society, has been making lace for almost nine years. Her goal is to become comfortable with half a dozen techniques and to demonstrate them, and to spend the rest of her energy admiring the many others in existence in various parts of the world. She loves to teach, thereby encouraging new people to pursue an art that is very far from becoming extinct!
