Search and Destroy: A Multimedia Variety Show
Search and Destroy (S.A.D. for short) is a multimedia variety show happening on the last friday of every month featuring artists and local leaders sharing their craft and talking about what matters most to them. Through storytelling, live conversations, audience interaction, and heavy doses of honesty and humor, S.A.D. seeks to give hope and to be an entertaining and informative space for all to have fun, let loose, and be reminded that we as a people have the agency and ability to initiate change by working together as one.
S.A.D. was partly inspired by late-night television talk shows and variety hours and follows a similar format: an eye-catching opening number, a charming Emcee willing to play the fool, and a shared evening of dance, music, film, comedy, and conversations/interviews, all loosely tied to a theme of the night. The show ends with a dance party where the audience is invited to join the party on stage.âšOne of the main goals of each S.A.D. show is to dissolve the separation between artist and audience by directly engaging, conversing, and interacting with the audience, inviting them to participate in their seats as well as on the stage.âš Every show features dance movement, improvisation, visual imagery and soundscapes, conversations and spoken word, and various bits that play with the blurring of boundaries between the scripted and unscripted, all through an honest and humorous lens and the intention to entertain, educate, and inspire. Each episode of S.A.D. showcases different artists and acts than the previous one, guaranteeing that every iteration is unique and can only be experienced once.âšS.A.D. is a show for everybody and every body, regardless of their identity, background, age, and anything else used to describe oneself.
*Revenue generated from each show is split evenly amongst the contributing artists

Pipilotti Rist: 4th Floor to Mildness
Internationally renowned artist Pipilotti Rist presents her major installation 4th Floor to Mildness in a West Coast premiere and only second exhibition in the U.S.
Pipilotti Rist dissolves exhibition spaces through luminous color, moving imagery, and melodic sound. 4th Floor to Mildness immerses the viewer in a soft, aquatically inspired environment, where a film shot underwater plays across two biomorphic-shaped screens hanging from the ceiling. A soundtrack by experimental musician Soap&Skin/Anja Plaschg adds to the ambience with lyrics about dreams, love, and memories as the camera catches glimpses of floating bodies. Two projected light circles move across the room, enlightening it with visceral hues. For Rist, this light represents a âdesire to turn yourself inside out.â
Rist creates conditions for visitors to come together in unconventional ways so that they might better understand their relationships to one another, their own bodies, and nature. In the gallery, raft-like beds provide a place or visitors to rest and share social space as they watch the projection overhead. She asks: âWhat happens to our perceptions when we donât have to stand or fight gravity?â The sensation of floating may evoke a sense of returning to an elemental state. For the artist, the work âdescribes the fantasy of [ourselves] being an organic plant . . . and simulates our dissolution into water, mud, slime, molecules and atoms.â
Originally created for the fourth floor of the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, PAM adapted the work to the Crumpacker Center with the assistance of the artistâs team at Atelier Rist; production partner Portland Garment Factory, a woman-owned B-corp and zero-waste creative factory, created the curtains, beds, and bed coverings, and Figure Plant engineered and fabricated the hanging screens.
DĂa de Los Muertos Festival: Marigolds y Memorias
Each year, Milagro observes DĂa de Muertos with the premiere of a new production, altar displays, and community events with the DĂa de Muertos Festival. The Centerpiece event of the 31st Annual DĂa de los Muertos Celebration is Marigolds y Memorias, an original devised production inspired by the traveling carpa tradition, in which humor, music, and storytelling come together in a vibrant theatrical journey. Guided by an elder, a younger generation learns o build an altart, the heart of DĂa de Muertos, discovering the meaning behind each of its elements, from candles and marigolds to photographs, ofrendas, and cherished recuerdos. Through song, dance, and short theatrical vignettes, the altar gradually takes shape as an act of remembrance and cultural inheritance, inviting audiences to consider how traditions are taught, how memory is kept alive, and what is carried forward when we share rituals across generations.
DĂa de Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a long-honored tradition with roots in Indigenous Mexican culture. DĂa de Muertos is observed annually in Mexican and other Latin American cultures on November 1st and 2nd as a remembrance of those who have passed. Individuals and families who honor this day set up ofrendas (altars) with offerings to their departed loved ones. Typical offerings include marigolds, calaveras, photos of the dead, and traditional food like âpan de muerto.â
James Spooner Book Release + Afro-Punk
James Spooner joins PAM CUT for a screening of his film Afro-Punk, followed by an author talk for his new book It Starts With Anger. Books will be available for sale on site.
It Starts With Anger is a coming-of-age graphic memoir exploring race, identity, and rebellion through James Spoonerâs teenage years in 1990s New York into his young adulthood in the early 2000s. Confronted with systemic racism, microaggressions, and Nazi extremism within punk spaces, Spooner traces how reactionary anger evolved into a creative force and a path to self-determination, along the way following the founding of the Afro-Punk movement, his eventual decision to leave the company, and an ongoing raw examination of the tensions between underground culture and mainstream success.
While not a traditional graphic memoir, It Starts With Anger combines black-and-white, zine-inspired visual elements including photos, illustrations, and cartoon panels with traditional narrative in a unique package that recounts the story behind Afro-Punk. James Spooner has not talked publicly about his reasons for quitting Afro-Punk previously, and the book is a damning indictment of its corporatization. But more importantly, it also oïŹers a look at issues of Black identity, representation, and the lack thereof in a movement that had often prided itself on allyship, while being completely myopic to all the ways it fell short in that regard as a scene that was ironically both liberating and alienating for the Black people drawn to it.
ON SCREEN: Afro-Punk
2003. Directed by James Spooner. Runtime: 1 hour 6 minutes.
This film, which many may assume is a historical punk documentary, is actually an honest and needed treatment of race and identity. Punk and Hardcore music are simply the microcosm in which it is told. First-time director, James Spooner, in telling this story, has opened new dialogues on these crucial subjects both intra- and interracially. Many times funny, sometimes sobering, a wake-up call to America. An examination of the duality of racial identity that DuBois called âdouble consciousness.â What could have been âThe Bad Brains Storyâ is a story about kids, alienated by two cultures and two communities. Many of these punk and hardcore kids have never questioned their role in the punk scene or the black community until their interviews, and itâs obvious as they struggle on camera to reconcile a fragmented self.
This program is co-presented by Literary Arts as part of the Cover-to-Cover program.

Just one year later, he moved to London to live and train with the top dance coaches in the world and attend the prestigious Italia Conti performing arts school where he studied theatre, music, and dance. He is a four-time Emmy Award winner and 13-time nominee, his four Emmys tie him for most in Television Academy history.
Hough is the current host of the long-running television program Extra. He has also appeared in film, television, and stage projects as an actor. Panel discussion featuring MacArthur Fellows Sterlin Harjo and Reginald Dwayne Betts.
What is more shapeshifting than the truth? Sterlin Harjo & Reginald Dwayne Betts join PAM CUT for a MacArthur Fellows Panel. Presented as part of PAM CUTâs PLUS PLUS Festival, join us for a FREE hosted discussion exploring questions like: What are truths? What makes them true? In this moderated conversation, we ask multidisciplinary artists Sterlin Harjo and Reginald Dwayne Betts to consider truth and truthiness.
Sterlin Harjo (Seminole/Mvskoke) is a MacArthur Fellow, award-winner, writer, director, and showrunner from Holdenville, Oklahoma. Most recently, Sterlin created, wrote, directed and is the executive producer of THE LOWDOWN, currently airing on FX and Hulu, starring Ethan Hawke. Previously, he was the showrunner, co-creator with Taika Waititi and director of the Emmy-nominated RESERVATION DOGS for FX. The series ran for three seasons and received numerous awards including a Gotham Award, a Peabody Award, two Independent Spirit Awards and honors from the Television Academy.
Reginald Dwayne Betts is a poet, lawyer, and founder and CEO of Freedom Reads. At sixteen, he was sentenced to nine years in adult prison for an armed carjacking, where he discovered poetry and the law. His work since then has been one long inquiry into how a child ends up in prison and what it takes to come home, pursued through poetry, memoir, theater, photography, and film. A MacArthur Fellow, Betts has authored six books, including A Question of Freedom and Doggerel (W.W. Norton, 2025). His solo theater work Felon: An American Washi Tale has been performed at San Quentin and the Perelman Performing Arts Center. He earned his J.D. from Yale Law School, where he is an Associate Research Scholar. Freedom Reads is the only organization in the country dedicated to building libraries inside prison cell blocks. Each Freedom Library is handcrafted, often by people who have served time themselves, and placed within armâs reach of the people it serves. Betts founded it on a simple conviction: freedom begins with a book.

B-Movie Bingo
Itâs simple. They play bingo to the most awesome movie cliches ever committed to celluloid, like âlong boring scene or male ponytail," "teamed up with rookie or animal," and "white suit or tropical ending.â For maybe the first time in a theater, see the relatives and employees of A-list actors you know and love, like Sylvester Stallone, whose brother bears a remarkable resemblance to him. Compete for prizes. Yell at your fellow movie nerds over the elusive and mysterious âblank square!â Relax: itâs B-Movie Bingo.
Every first Tuesday of the month at 7:30 pm, Hollywood Theater plays B-Movie Bingo, a game that is exactly like it sounds. Or more.
Cost: $10 - $12Marigolds y Memorias
Centerpiece event of Milagroâs 31st Annual DĂa de los Muertos Celebration.
Marigolds y Memorias is an original devised production inspired by the traveling carpa tradition, in which humor, music, and storytelling come together in a vibrant theatrical journey. Guided by their ancestors, a younger generation rediscovers the heart of DĂa de Muertos, the meaning behind each of its elements, from candles and marigolds to ofrendas and cherished recuerdos. Through song, dance, and short theatrical vignettes, an altar gradually takes shape as an act of remembrance and cultural inheritance, inviting audiences to consider how traditions are taught, how memory is kept alive, and what is carried forward when we share rituals across generations.

SVBD has a long history of performance excellence through music and dance. To continue this robust program for our students, we rely not only on our parents, extended families and students to raise money, but also on the generosity of our community and local businesses to sustain our program. With over 100+ students, SVBD consists of the Fall Marching Band & Guard (dance team), Winter Guard, Winter Percussion, two Jazz Bands, three Concert Bands (Concert, Symphonic and Wind Ensemble), a Spring Parade Marching Band & Guard, and pep bands for school events. These bands and dance teams put in countless hours to compete and perform for the community throughout the year. Skyview High School is the last school in Clark County to offer competitive Marching Band & Guard, Winter Guard, and Winter Percussion.
Through fundraising and community support, SVBD keeps the bands and dance teams supplied with the necessary support to keep the program functioning at a competitive level. SVBD assists with instructor fees, show design costs, musical and dance equipment, uniforms, maintenance costs of travel trailers to haul show equipment, and travel costs for the many competitions and events they participate in each year. For all opportunities, SVBD is proud to fund scholarships ensuring that financial need is never a barrier to a studentâs experience.
Thank you in advance for joining us and for supporting our students and band program as they continue to grow and thrive.

Ornette: Made In America (1985)
Ornette: Made In America (1985) Directed by Shirley Clarke. 1hr 17min. Not Rated.
Guest programmed by Rob Lewis, PAM CUT @ The Whitsell presents Ornette: Made In America (1985). This freewheeling documentary is a portrait of Ornette Colemanâs life, legacy, and evolution over three decades. Featuring William S. Burroughs, Brion Gysin, Buckminster Fuller, Don Cherry, Yoko Ono, Charlie Haden, Robert Palmer, Jayne Cortez, and John Rockwell, the film features a free-jazz approach and style, using video collage and experimental segments to tell Colemanâs story.
âIâve always been interested in films about artists. I think because they end up being a conversation not just between filmmaker and subject in a traditional way but also between two uniquely creative people. This film is a really interesting study of that relationship and connection.â â Rob Lewis

Wicker: A Wine Flight at Pairings Portland
A fisherwoman in a small seaside village gets so tired of her neighbors' teasing that she commissions a husband woven from wicker, and the village is thrown into an uproar. For one week, Pairings Portland is pairing a wine flight to Wicker, the Sundance favorite starring Olivia Colman, Alexander SkarsgÄrd, Peter Dinklage and Elizabeth Debicki. Each wine is matched to a piece of the story: the fisherwoman, her handmade husband and the scandalized neighbors. Pairings is a neighborhood wine shop and bar in Northeast Portland that builds a new themed flight every week. You can taste as few as five wines or as many as the lineup holds, and nine or more gets you 10% off bottles.
A small selection of non-alcoholic wines and sodas is also available. All are welcome, and fun will be had.

Heavenâs Gate (2021)
High-definition 3D 8K video with sound, color; 5 min., 45 sec., loop
A lavish and satirical take on the silver-screen spectacle of Hollywood dreams and excesses, Heavenâs Gate both celebrates collective storytelling and satirizes saturated glamour and stereotypes. The continuously looping video ascends through the seven levels of purgatory, each stage its own unique landscape of visual samples lifted from iconic moments in cinematic history.
Anthology (2025)
Photoâmontage printed on wallpaper
Anthology mirrors the way we recall films: as iconic moments, cinematic scenes and emotional cues. By intuitively forming associations between set pieces and characters, Marco Brambilla constructs a compelling âmemory timelineâ, a series of powerful still images that represent narrative fragments, punctuating the rhythm of cinema across genres and eras.
These curated images resonate not because of their plot context but due to their visual and emotional impact. Chosen for their ability to stand apart, they act as pauses or reflections within the flow of a filmâs narrative, exploring how singular moments in film can encapsulate entire stories. Characters and scenes become a visual grammarâpauses, interruptions, and exclamationsâ underscoring the evolving relationship between image, time, and viewer interpretation in cinema history.

âEarthâs Greatest Enemyâ Documentary Screening
Clark College welcomes award-winning journalist Abby Martin of the Empire Files for a screening of her documentary film, âEarthâs Greatest Enemy,â 6-9:30 p.m. Nov. 19 in Foster Hall. This free community event is sponsored by the Clark College ASCC Student Life Philosophy Program. This film reveals a truth behind the climate crisis: the role of the U.S. military as the worldâs largest institutional polluter, tracing the link between war, empire and ecological destruction. Drawing on powerful testimonies from veterans, scientists and frontline communities, it uncovers how military operations poison ecosystems, accelerate global warming and sacrifice the future for expansion.
