Fred Eaglesmith

Mississippi Studios & Bar Bar3939 North Mississippi Avenue

Fred Eaglesmith has played them all; from television’s The Late Show with David Letterman to the legendary Grand Ole Opry in Nashville to the refined acoustics of the Lincoln Center, but this fall, Canada’s most uncompromising troubadour brings his whip-smart songwriting and road-tested show back to the very communites that inspired him.

The Juno Award winning poet of rural Canada has spent four decades turning service station stories, county fair romances, broken down old tractors, and gravel roads into timeless songs. His devoted fan base, affectionately known as ‘Fred Heads’ and a reputation for delivering shows that are equal parts intimate and electrifying have established this founder of alt-country as the benchmark for his contemporaries as well as aspiring artists. Eaglesmith’s songs, filled with wit, heart, and unvarnished truth have been covered by the likes of Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, Miranda Lambert and countless others. Over 120 artists from Bluegrass to Punk have recorded his popular tune, “Alcohol & Pills.” His hit, “Trucker Speed,” has been named to the 100 Top Americana Songs of All Time and garnered over 60 million views with over 6 thousand independent videos having been created on Tik Tok.

Taste for Equity: Cultivate

The Nines, A Luxury Collection Hotel525 Southwest Morrison Street

Join an evening where chefs, winemakers, and farmers come together to share the harvest — an evening of food, land, and community unfolding beneath an open sky. Guests will rotate in small groups to taste a dish and wine pairing developed by three chefs and three winemakers from the roster of TASTE's past partners in three different settings around the estate. Then, come together for dessert and celebration during the golden hour program, culminating with dancing under the stars.

Supporting Adelante Mujeres means investing in the Latine community to cultivate opportunity, leadership, and resilience — strengthening the roots that help communities rise together. In addition to Adelante Mujeres, proceeds from this year's TASTE for Equity Event Series also benefit two additional powerful Portland organizations: APANO, uniting Asian and Pacific Islanders to build power and advance equity, and ELSO Inc., cultivating generations of innovators and problem solvers for local and global impact.

Party bus transportation from a central location in Portland will be offered to all guests for an additional cost at the time of checkout when you purchase your ticket. Please join and extend the evening of fun, and make sure you get home safely.

Seats are limited, and this event will sell out. If you’ve been to a TASTE event before, you know. If this is your first time — welcome. This table was made for you. Tickets are 75-$250 on a sliding scale. Lower-priced tickets are reserved for those working in the F&B service industry.

Ghost Show! The Reading of the TV Pilot

Twilight Theater Company7515 North Brandon Avenue Portland

Ghost Show! is the story of a group of people who have found themselves at the lowest point in their lives — making a low-budget ghost hunting show that’s in last place in the local ratings. But an accidental death (is she dead, though?) leads to a boost in engagement…and a whole new set of problems. Filmed both behind the scenes and as in-universe episodes of the show, Ghost Show! is all about failure, found family, and trying to make meaning out of the ghosts of the past — and future.

Join the Tiny Park Productions team at Twilight Theater for the launch party of the pilot reading of Ghost Show! Not only will you see and hear the first official reading of the pilot script, but you’ll also get to enjoy fun, spooky-season-themed activities and treats — think of it as a theatrical carnival.

There will also be a costume contest with Door Prizes, so Halloween costumes are encouraged.

Tickets include a free raffle ticket. Prizes include real ghost-hunting gear.

Home Sweet Home: Ashley Anson

One Grand Gallery1000 East Burnside Street

One Grand Gallery is delighted to welcome back Portland-based Ashley Anson for her second solo exhibition with the gallery. Home Sweet Home expounds on Anson’s fondness for found textiles and materials and processes historically associated with feminine domestic labor. Drawing on traditionally gendered art forms such as quilting and embroidery, she combines textiles with painting and small sculpture to create narratives about the unseen worlds within people’s homes. Home is central to her work, a place that can hold peace, chaos, and danger all at once.

Anson transforms personal family folklore into layered narratives, exploring how stories imagined in childhood are remembered, exaggerated, and reinterpreted across generations. Her work also examines gender roles in art, asking what gives a painting masculine or feminine attributes and whether an artist’s gender can be sensed in the work. By combining the historically male-dominated practice of painting with embroidery and textiles, she challenges conventional distinctions between artistic mediums.

Join the opening reception on Friday, Oct. 30 from 6- 9 p.m. In the spirit of the Halloween season, the opening will transition into a party as the evening approaches. Costumes are strongly encouraged.

Dwight Yoakam is a legendary artist whose influence has reshaped the landscape of country music and beyond. With over 25 million albums sold worldwide, he is a 21-time Grammy nominee and multiple Grammy Award winner. His catalog includes 12 gold albums and 9 platinum or multi-platinum releases, with five topping the Billboard Country Albums chart and 14 landing in the Top 10. Nearly 40 of his singles have charted on the Billboard charts, including 14 Top 10 hits. A recipient of the Americana Music Association’s Artist of the Year award and BMI Country Music’s President’s Award, the highest honors bestowed by each organization, Yoakam was also inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019.

His latest release, Brighter Days (Via Records/Thirty Tigers), marks his first new album in nine years. Released in November 2024, the album was written and recorded over a three-year period and features twelve brand-new songs written or co-written by Yoakam. It also includes three seemingly disparate covers: “Keep On the Sunny Side” by the Carter Family, “Bound Away” by Cake, and “Time Between” by Chris Hillman of The Byrds, artfully woven into the same body of work in the unmistakable style that could only be Dwight Yoakam.

A passionate curator of musical heritage, Yoakam launched his SiriusXM channel, Dwight Yoakam and The Bakersfield Beat: Where Country Went Mod, in 2018, spotlighting the Bakersfield sound and its far-reaching influence. The channel celebrates the Bakersfield sound and those whom it has inspired. Guests have included Post Malone, Lukas Nelson, Beck, Chris Hillman, Jakob Dylan, and Jackie DeShannon.

Gram Jam VI: A Tribute to Gram Parsons to Benefit the Jeremy Wilson Foundation

Gram Jam is a celebration of the music of Gram Parsons. A seminal figure at the roots of what is now referred to as Americana. A mix of traditional country, rock n roll, blues and soul. Gram called that mix Cosmic American Music. Gram Parson’s efforts with The International Submarine Band, The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers and his two solo albums, GP and Grievous Angel were not commercial successes but his songs and style influenced all that came after. The Eagles, Little Feat, Workingman’s Dead by the Grateful Dead, The New Riders of The Purple Sage, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris are just a short list. Cosmic American Music is still alive and well in Portland and many other places around the world.

Shorty and The Mustangs have organized five Gram Jam benefit concerts for the Jeremy Wilson Foundation https://www.thejwf.or since 2016. So why do a sixth now?

In November, Gram Parsons would be turning 80 within two days of Gram Jam VI and will also be inducted into The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame within a few weeks of the show. In addition, Shorty and The Mustangs are celebrating their 30 th Anniversary in 2026. Too many dates have aligned. It’s meant to happen.

A stellar list of local musicians are donating their time and talent to this benefit show. Get your tickets, you don’t want to miss this!

Highlights: Wrigley Field, PGE Park, Dodgers Stadium, The Staples Center, US Cellular Field and the Thomas & Mack Center for the Lakers, Dodgers, White Sox, Timbers and Gladiators. The impact has resulted in millions hearing her voice, news features and national commercials on TV and Radio and her five independent releases have crossed many genres - Acoustic folk, rock, pop, metal, jazz, and improvisation.

Singing throughout the Oregon Countryside with her love and partner, Mike Soto - and their band 23window -- is what she loves best. Having recently released, IN THE RAW, an improvisation project - 13 tracks made up on the spot - she continues to put forward new music. Sweet harmonies on several tracks of the recent Lindsie Feathers release, Neon Renaissance are hers -- and the two perform together in Portland. Releasing from the archives -- live piano and vocals recorded in NYC with Martin Bejerano -- 100% freestyle - a single, "unconditional" Vaut Records 2018. Most importantly -- hearts touched -- souls united and many great times created in the moment.

FULL SPECTRUM Immersive Art Exhibition: Opening Night Party!

FULL SPECTRUM is a group exhibition of Portland XR artists at Daydreamer Coffee and Public House in St. Johns, opening November 7 and running through the holidays. The framing: just as a prism reveals the colors hidden inside light, these artists use immersive technology to surface the hidden layers of the human heart. Visitors explore the work through phones, VR headsets, and AR glasses, so the show is as much about the viewing apparatus as it is about the images. The organizers treat technology as a way to amplify human expression rather than replace it, and the exhibition doubles as a growth effort for the Portland immersive community. Sponsored by Specs and the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication Reality Lab in Portland. Opening night party at 7315 N Fessenden S https://luma.com/7v1f7buz

John Bunzow brings a mix of eclectic musical influences – melding blues, country, rock and even jazz – that have helped establish him as an original artist of heartfelt depth, substance and style. He’s as likely to draw on his love of the music of scuffling barroom bard Tom Waits as he is the smooth R&B and soul of Marvin Gaye, the iconic folk wisdom of Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Ry Cooder or the blues of Albert King.all ages, free
