The Lost Table

El Zócalo537 SE Stark Street

The Portland Grief House invites you to join The Lost Table, a welcoming space to gather in community, remember those we’ve lost, and share in the traditions that help us keep them close. Bring a dish, pull up a chair, and make a place at the table for the dead. Grief can be hard to understand, and sometimes what we need most is community, ritual, conversation, and food.

Together, we’ll explore how different cultures and traditions call to, honor, and make offerings to those who have died. In the spirit of Día de Muertos, we’ll create a shared space where the living and the dead can gather around the same table.

We’ll begin with a creative activity led by Mario Mesquita, inviting us to reflect on memory, food, and our relationships with those we’ve lost. Participants will be introduced to the ritual elements that will carry us through the evening.

Laura Green will lead a community conversation about intercultural traditions of Día de Muertos and other ways communities call to and remember their dead. Participants will have an opportunity to share stories, traditions, and memories, and to dedicate an offering to someone they have lost.

Bea Yeh will introduce the tradition of Hungry Ghost and lead us in making an offering to the dead. We’ll set places at our table for those who are no longer with us and share food as an act of remembrance and connection.

Our community offerings and tributes will be gathered at Ximena Morales’s altar, creating a shared space of remembrance that connects the different traditions and offerings brought into the room.

Throughout the evening, we’ll create something together through words, offerings, and remembrance. We’ll dedicate a community poem to the dead and close our gathering with a collective ritual of words, sound, and stillness.

Please bring:

  • A dish to share, plus any serving utensils it needs. Consider bringing something that reminds you of a loved one or connects you to a family or cultural tradition.
  • Please label your food with a card identifying any allergens or dietary considerations.
  • Your own dinnerware (plate, bowl, utensils, napkin).
  • A beverage for yourself, if you’d like something other than water.
  • A photograph, name, or other small tribute to a loved one for the community altar, if you’d like.
  • Please do not bring chips, salsa, or guacamole—Milagro will provide these.

The Portland Grief House is honored to continue this tradition, originally started by Side Yard Farm. El Centro Milagro is excited to partner with Portland Grief House to create a space for English- and Spanish-speaking community members to gather, remember, share traditions, and honor the dead together.

Taste for Equity: Cultivate

The Nines, A Luxury Collection Hotel525 Southwest Morrison Street

Join an evening where chefs, winemakers, and farmers come together to share the harvest — an evening of food, land, and community unfolding beneath an open sky. Guests will rotate in small groups to taste a dish and wine pairing developed by three chefs and three winemakers from the roster of TASTE's past partners in three different settings around the estate. Then, come together for dessert and celebration during the golden hour program, culminating with dancing under the stars.

Supporting Adelante Mujeres means investing in the Latine community to cultivate opportunity, leadership, and resilience — strengthening the roots that help communities rise together. In addition to Adelante Mujeres, proceeds from this year's TASTE for Equity Event Series also benefit two additional powerful Portland organizations: APANO, uniting Asian and Pacific Islanders to build power and advance equity, and ELSO Inc., cultivating generations of innovators and problem solvers for local and global impact.

Party bus transportation from a central location in Portland will be offered to all guests for an additional cost at the time of checkout when you purchase your ticket. Please join and extend the evening of fun, and make sure you get home safely.

Seats are limited, and this event will sell out. If you’ve been to a TASTE event before, you know. If this is your first time — welcome. This table was made for you. Tickets are 75-$250 on a sliding scale. Lower-priced tickets are reserved for those working in the F&B service industry.

Ghost Show! The Reading of the TV Pilot

Twilight Theater Company7515 North Brandon Avenue Portland

Ghost Show! is the story of a group of people who have found themselves at the lowest point in their lives — making a low-budget ghost hunting show that’s in last place in the local ratings. But an accidental death (is she dead, though?) leads to a boost in engagement…and a whole new set of problems. Filmed both behind the scenes and as in-universe episodes of the show, Ghost Show! is all about failure, found family, and trying to make meaning out of the ghosts of the past — and future.

Join the Tiny Park Productions team at Twilight Theater for the launch party of the pilot reading of Ghost Show! Not only will you see and hear the first official reading of the pilot script, but you’ll also get to enjoy fun, spooky-season-themed activities and treats — think of it as a theatrical carnival.

There will also be a costume contest with Door Prizes, so Halloween costumes are encouraged.

Tickets include a free raffle ticket. Prizes include real ghost-hunting gear.

Home Sweet Home: Ashley Anson

One Grand Gallery1000 East Burnside Street

One Grand Gallery is delighted to welcome back Portland-based Ashley Anson for her second solo exhibition with the gallery. Home Sweet Home expounds on Anson’s fondness for found textiles and materials and processes historically associated with feminine domestic labor. Drawing on traditionally gendered art forms such as quilting and embroidery, she combines textiles with painting and small sculpture to create narratives about the unseen worlds within people’s homes. Home is central to her work, a place that can hold peace, chaos, and danger all at once.

Anson transforms personal family folklore into layered narratives, exploring how stories imagined in childhood are remembered, exaggerated, and reinterpreted across generations. Her work also examines gender roles in art, asking what gives a painting masculine or feminine attributes and whether an artist’s gender can be sensed in the work. By combining the historically male-dominated practice of painting with embroidery and textiles, she challenges conventional distinctions between artistic mediums.

Join the opening reception on Friday, Oct. 30 from 6- 9 p.m. In the spirit of the Halloween season, the opening will transition into a party as the evening approaches. Costumes are strongly encouraged.

The Lost Table: A Community Gathering for Grief and Remembrance

Milagro – Miracle Theatre Group525 Southeast Stark Street

The Portland Grief House invites you to join The Lost Table, a resilient, welcoming space to gather in community and share experiences of loss. Bring a dish, pull up a chair, and share your heart in good company. Grief can be hard to understand, and sometimes what is needed most is community, conversation, and food. During the gathering, each participant will have a few minutes to share their grief in whatever way feels right—whether it's someone who is missed, something that has changed, a loss being carried, or an experience that continues to shape. While one person shares, the rest will listen with care and presence. Save time at the end of the evening to thank one another and connect, but please refrain from interrupting or responding during the sharing portion.

Día de Muertos and the month of November invite you to reflect on and remember loved ones who have passed—a time to celebrate their lives and meet death not with fear, but with love, memory, storytelling, and even humor. Mario Mesquita will lead an opening creative activity exploring memory and the role of cuisine in honoring loved ones, building toward a collective community tribute. Participants are welcome to bring a photograph of a loved one or create an offering featuring their loved one's name.

Bea Ogden will present the Hungry Ghost tradition and make an offering for the community ofrenda, opening a cultural exchange around how different traditions honor and remember the dead. Mario and Bea will also guide participants in writing a community poem, inviting each person to contribute a line or dedication to place on the altar.

Please bring:

  • A dish to share, along with any serving utensils it requires. You're welcome to bring something simple—such as a bag of chips or fresh fruit—or a favorite dish that reminds you of a loved one.
  • Your own dinnerware (plate, bowl, utensils, and napkin).
  • Optional: A beverage for yourself if you would like something other than water.
  • Optional: A photograph of a loved one to include in our community tribute

The Portland Grief House is honored to continue this tradition, originally started by Side Yard Farm. El Centro Milagro is excited to partner with Portland Grief House to create a welcoming space for both English- and Spanish-speaking community members to gather, remember, and heal together.

FULL SPECTRUM Immersive Art Exhibition: Opening Night Party!

FULL SPECTRUM is a group exhibition of Portland XR artists at Daydreamer Coffee and Public House in St. Johns, opening November 7 and running through the holidays. The framing: just as a prism reveals the colors hidden inside light, these artists use immersive technology to surface the hidden layers of the human heart. Visitors explore the work through phones, VR headsets, and AR glasses, so the show is as much about the viewing apparatus as it is about the images. The organizers treat technology as a way to amplify human expression rather than replace it, and the exhibition doubles as a growth effort for the Portland immersive community. Sponsored by Specs and the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication Reality Lab in Portland. Opening night party at 7315 N Fessenden S https://luma.com/7v1f7buz

Thursday Swing ft. Rhythm Wrecker Dance Band

Calling all lindy hoppers, balboa-heads, Charleston nuts, and shag enthusiasts! Come on out to Portland's longest-running swing dance, bringing you fantastic live jazz music on Norse Hall's magnificent floor.

Be ready for a night of four-to-the-bar swing tonight with Portland's own Rhythm Wrecker Dance Band!! The band is formed by dancers for dancers, and they know a thing or two about music. Known for their solid swing sound, this band is committed to making danceable music for all you swing dancers. The band is inspired by vintage sounds with an emphasis on 1940's "transition era" sound that blends swing, jump blues, and vintage rock n' roll. The band loves to play tribute to the Black and African American bandleaders and musicians of the time with adapted arrangements of well-known classics and lesser-known cuts during this masterful era of jazz music.

Our Foundations Lesson is an hour-long beginner lesson from 6:45PM-7:45PM (and is included with the dance cover!). The lesson is great for folks who are new to dancing, curious about dancing, or just love dancing! Topics will lean more towards Lindy Hop or Charleston depending on the band playing each Thursday night. We hope to see you there before the dance starts at 8pm and we kick off another fun night!

The Annual Best Of Pants On Fire Party: Filthy/Freaky

Portland's Wildest Storytelling Experience Returns!

Take a break and treat yourself after a long Turkey Day and join us for Portland's wildest and most interactive comedy and storytelling entertainment event: the annualBest Of Pants On Fire! Party at the historic White Eagle Hotel & Saloon.

Each Pants On Fire! show features eight of the Northwest's premier storytellers, comedians, artists, writers, celebrities & musicians telling some of the most outrageous, hard-to-believe, 100% true stories you've ever heard - except that one of our storytellers will be lying to your face, telling a complete whopper that never happened. Our annual Best Of show, always held over Thanksgiving weekend, brings back our best performers of the past year, as voted on by our fans.

And as always, if you can guess which of our storytellers is the liar, you could win an overnight stay at the Edgefield Winery on us. Or you can try to win the Bag O' Somewhat Valuable Prizes with our Two Truths & A Lie Audience Cage Match!

Pants On Fire:Filthy/Freakywill be a 21-and-over show, and will feature eight incredibly sinful, possibly risqué, decidedly not-safe-for-work stories. (Our earlier show, Pants On Fire: Family/Friendly (9:00pm), will be all ages and decidedly not risqué; you can get tickets to that show at the White Eagle or 7 Deadly Sinswebsite. )

Featuring new (mostly) true stories from comedian and creatorof the award winning shows American't and Rabbit Night!!! Jon Bennet; writer, actress, one-time-weather-gal anPDX radio icon Daria Eliuk;comedian, Funny/Story coach, and host of Shady Pine Radio's Porch Hang Ash Allen; comedian, New Yorker Magazinecontributor, and winner of WillametteWeek's 2021 Funniest Five Katie Nguyen; comedian, The Moth storytelling coach, creature of the Webby-nominated Failure Club, and host ofThe Absolute Worst Show Meg Ferrill; storyteller, director of Story Pirates, host of Kickstand Comedy's The Do Over and exactly 50% of the award-winning improv duo Tim & Bradford Bradford Jordan; marketing guru and longtime DJ and VJ Melissa Ives; couples therapist and 7DS fan favorite Jamie Berkowitz; and more!

This show sells out every year, so get your tix now and come out for a wild night of funniest, craziest, most unbelievable stories you'll ever hear on stage - most of which will actually be true.

______________

Over the past decade, 7 Deadly Sins has built a reputation as one of the most innovative live storytelling collectives in the country. Each of our shows blend comedy, tragedy, inspiration, and redemption into riveting stories from real people that remind us all what it means to be human. Our regular shows include the interactive comedy shows 7DS: Pants On Fire!,The Absolute Worst Best & Weirdest Show, and Daria's Confessional Cabaret at McMenamins White Eagle, as well as7 Deadly Sins: MainStageand7 Deadly Sins: Saturnalia!at the Mission Theater.

Our newest show 7 Deadly Sins: Church, a seven-part heathen's exploration of sin and the human spirit, was commissioned by the Portland Art Museum's PAM-CUT program and will begin this December at the Tomorrow Theater. Check us out at 7DeadlySinsShows.org.
