Great Pumpkin Toss

There are a number of ways you can dispose of your Halloween pumpkin - you can put it in your compost pile, you can put it in your yard debris container for curbside collection, or... you can toss it off the training tower at the Westlake Fire Station!

Bring your pumpkins, carved or not, to Westlake Park, 14165 Bunick Drive, on November 1 between 2 and 5 p.m. to take part in this free, fun event. Participants will climb the tower and toss their pumpkin to a target below.

Hosted by the Lake Oswego Fire Department, and joined by Lake Oswego Police and Library, this event supports Hunger Fighters Oregon (www.hungerfightersoregon.org), a small food pantry located in Lake Oswego dedicated to providing food and essential household items at no cost to those in need. To help, please bring a donation of non-expired, non-perishable food items. Thanksgiving/holiday foods and ingredients such as mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, broth, and pie/bread mix are appreciated.

The Lost Table

El Zócalo537 SE Stark Street

The Portland Grief House invites you to join The Lost Table, a welcoming space to gather in community, remember those we’ve lost, and share in the traditions that help us keep them close. Bring a dish, pull up a chair, and make a place at the table for the dead. Grief can be hard to understand, and sometimes what we need most is community, ritual, conversation, and food.

Together, we’ll explore how different cultures and traditions call to, honor, and make offerings to those who have died. In the spirit of Día de Muertos, we’ll create a shared space where the living and the dead can gather around the same table.

We’ll begin with a creative activity led by Mario Mesquita, inviting us to reflect on memory, food, and our relationships with those we’ve lost. Participants will be introduced to the ritual elements that will carry us through the evening.

Laura Green will lead a community conversation about intercultural traditions of Día de Muertos and other ways communities call to and remember their dead. Participants will have an opportunity to share stories, traditions, and memories, and to dedicate an offering to someone they have lost.

Bea Yeh will introduce the tradition of Hungry Ghost and lead us in making an offering to the dead. We’ll set places at our table for those who are no longer with us and share food as an act of remembrance and connection.

Our community offerings and tributes will be gathered at Ximena Morales’s altar, creating a shared space of remembrance that connects the different traditions and offerings brought into the room.

Throughout the evening, we’ll create something together through words, offerings, and remembrance. We’ll dedicate a community poem to the dead and close our gathering with a collective ritual of words, sound, and stillness.

Please bring:

  • A dish to share, plus any serving utensils it needs. Consider bringing something that reminds you of a loved one or connects you to a family or cultural tradition.
  • Please label your food with a card identifying any allergens or dietary considerations.
  • Your own dinnerware (plate, bowl, utensils, napkin).
  • A beverage for yourself, if you’d like something other than water.
  • A photograph, name, or other small tribute to a loved one for the community altar, if you’d like.
  • Please do not bring chips, salsa, or guacamole—Milagro will provide these.

The Portland Grief House is honored to continue this tradition, originally started by Side Yard Farm. El Centro Milagro is excited to partner with Portland Grief House to create a space for English- and Spanish-speaking community members to gather, remember, share traditions, and honor the dead together.

The Lost Table: A Community Gathering for Grief and Remembrance

Milagro – Miracle Theatre Group525 Southeast Stark Street

The Portland Grief House invites you to join The Lost Table, a resilient, welcoming space to gather in community and share experiences of loss. Bring a dish, pull up a chair, and share your heart in good company. Grief can be hard to understand, and sometimes what is needed most is community, conversation, and food. During the gathering, each participant will have a few minutes to share their grief in whatever way feels right—whether it's someone who is missed, something that has changed, a loss being carried, or an experience that continues to shape. While one person shares, the rest will listen with care and presence. Save time at the end of the evening to thank one another and connect, but please refrain from interrupting or responding during the sharing portion.

Día de Muertos and the month of November invite you to reflect on and remember loved ones who have passed—a time to celebrate their lives and meet death not with fear, but with love, memory, storytelling, and even humor. Mario Mesquita will lead an opening creative activity exploring memory and the role of cuisine in honoring loved ones, building toward a collective community tribute. Participants are welcome to bring a photograph of a loved one or create an offering featuring their loved one's name.

Bea Ogden will present the Hungry Ghost tradition and make an offering for the community ofrenda, opening a cultural exchange around how different traditions honor and remember the dead. Mario and Bea will also guide participants in writing a community poem, inviting each person to contribute a line or dedication to place on the altar.

Please bring:

  • A dish to share, along with any serving utensils it requires. You're welcome to bring something simple—such as a bag of chips or fresh fruit—or a favorite dish that reminds you of a loved one.
  • Your own dinnerware (plate, bowl, utensils, and napkin).
  • Optional: A beverage for yourself if you would like something other than water.
  • Optional: A photograph of a loved one to include in our community tribute

The Portland Grief House is honored to continue this tradition, originally started by Side Yard Farm. El Centro Milagro is excited to partner with Portland Grief House to create a welcoming space for both English- and Spanish-speaking community members to gather, remember, and heal together.

Get Together With Your Unhoused Neighbors! Come Socialize (age 18+) *Hands On*

At Operation Nightwatch, volunteers play an important role to those who come through our doors each night; and not only through serving food and distributing essential items. Social connection is at the heart of our mission, and we strive to provide our guests with hospitality and unconditional positive regard with each interaction. Three nights a week we provide a comfortable atmosphere for guests to socialize over a cup of coffee, connect with their greater community of unhoused and housed folks alike, cultivate friendships…and probably beat you at Scrabble. Volunteers are asked to arrive at 5:45 pm for a brief orientation and tour of our facilities before being assigned tasks. Throughout the evening you may be tasked with a variety of duties ranging from coffee service to bathroom monitor, but our core mission remains: providing hospitality & social connection. We invite you to show up just as you are, and expect you to extend the same grace to our guests. The majority of our guests are experiencing houselessness, but many do have housing and may even live nearby. Operation Nightwatch welcomes everyone without question. Every meal or cup of coffee is served with kindness and respect. Since 1981, Operation Nightwatch has been providing hospitality to alleviate the isolation experienced by those living on the streets. We also distribute essential items and offer drop in mental health support to those who request it. Our hospitality center is one of the few who offer nighttime services, and for this reason acts as a “last stop” and meeting place for folks to meet their basic needs, wind down, and connect with their community. Project Requirements: Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to attend this project. If you plan to bring guests you MUST reserve slots for them. The best way to do this is to create a Volunteer Team, then sign up your team for this project. IMPORTANT NOTE: You are responsible for ensuring that everyone signed up through your team attends - only sign up team members who have confirmed their availability. Teams that repeatedly sign up, but do not show up or show up with fewer volunteers than they signed up, may be removed. WeBike WTFNB+ Gear Swap

🚨 Newsflash: Not a ride, but an indoor event!

  • Organizer: WeBike
  • Schedule: Come and go anytime between 6-8 p.m.
  • Location Details: Secure indoor bike parking is provided.
  • Audience: General (all ages)

WeBike events are for women, trans, and non-binary folks. This includes but is not limited to trans men, trans women, cis women, agender, gender queer, gender fluid, gender nonconforming, and Two Spirit people. Read more about WeBike: thestreettrust.org/webike

Interested in doing more on-the-bike adventures, but feeling limited by not having the right gear? OR, are you sitting on way too much gear that doesn’t really fit your needs? Well then, do we have the event for you!

Join us Monday, November 23 for a WeBike gear swap! Attendees are invited (but not required) to bring gently used gear to swap with fellow WeBikers. This can be whatever you think others might get use out of – bike camping gear and bike bags, commuting gear (panniers, rain clothes, etc.), cycling apparel, and more. If you don’t have any gear to contribute, we still want you there! Some of our amazing community partners have donated gear and helmets that we’ll contribute to the Gear Swap Pot. Plus, all leftover gear will be donated to our friends at Bike Farm. Win-win!

We’ll have bubbly water and light snacks to share, and attendees are welcome to bring more potluck-style snacks if that’s your jam. We’ll do it open-house style, so feel free to come and go whenever works for you during the event’s 6-8 p.m. window.

About WeBike:

WeBike is The Street Trust’s program to inspire more trans people of all genders, gender non-conforming people, Two Spirit, and women (both trans and cis) to incorporate a bike into their lives and use biking as a way to meet their transportation needs and personal goals. We aim to dismantle the barriers of cycling through rides, knowledge-sharing events, meet and greets, and mentorship. The WeBike-Portland private Facebook group is a resource, hub, and a way to connect with others riding in the area. If you have any questions about biking or great biking tips you want to share, post them there!

Find WeBike events on our Linktree, The Street Trust events calendar and shared to the WeBike Instagram, @webikepdx

Gift Wrap Swap at Kindred

Unroll your extra wrapping paper, ribbons, and gift bags—let’s share the festive abundance!

Got half-used rolls of wrapping paper? A stash of gift bags too nice to toss? Bring your clean, reusable wrapping supplies and trade them for something new-to-you. Whether you’re a minimalist brown-paper-and-twine fan or a glitter-everything enthusiast, this swap is your chance to wrap sustainably (and save some cash during the spendiest season).

How it works: Bring gift wrap, tissue paper, ribbons, tags, or gift boxes (in good condition—no crumpled wads, please). Take what you need—no trade required! Swap tips on zero-waste wrapping (or just admire each other’s stash).

Why swap? Cut waste—keep paper and bags circulating instead of trashed. Save money—because gifts inside the wrapping matter more. Share the joy—community > consumerism, always.

No fees, no fuss—just guilt-free festive prep.

Make Sack Lunches for Individuals Experiencing Homelessness (age 6+) Referral

Each year, Transition Projects assists over 10,000 people experiencing homelessness. Roughly half of Portlanders experiencing homelessness are currently unsheltered. Our Navigation Team seeks to engage people where they are, build trust, and help make connections to needed support services. Sack lunches provide a healthy meal and help build connections. Volunteers will be asked to bring items to contribute to the sack lunches and the group will prepare 50-100 sack lunches to be given out by our Navigation Team to individuals currently unhoused. You will be assigned what items to bring. Bring your food items and work alongside other volunteers to make sack lunches including PB&J sandwiches, fruit, and snacks. We're counting on you! It is imperative that if you sign up for this project, you intend to be there and provide the ingredients that are assigned to you. When volunteers don't show up, we're not able to prepare the sack lunches. If you are unable to attend, please let us know ASAP! Please note: no volunteer will be turned away due to lack of resources. If bringing a food item is a hardship for you, please let us know. Opportunity Requirements: Volunteers must be 6 years of age or older to participate in this opportunity; any volunteer under age 16 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone. Click on "Express Interest" below if you are interested in helping out! **This is a Referral Opportunity, which means it is run directly by one of our nonprofit partners. Once you express interest, someone from the partner organization should follow up with you shortly to discuss confirming you as a volunteer for this opportunity. **Please note, your hours may not be recorded in your Hands On Greater Portland account since this is a partner-managed opportunity.
