Fall Author Series: Jeff VanderMeer In Conversation with A.L. Goldfuss
Jeff VanderMeer's internationally bestselling, critically acclaimed Southern Reach series has been translated into over 37 languages. The first novel, Annihilation, won the Nebula and Shirley Jackson awards, and was made into a movie by Alex Garland in 2018. Called "the weird Thoreau" by The New Yorker, VanderMeer’s nonfiction has appeared in Time, The Nation, the Los Angeles Times, and Esquire, among other publications.
A.L. Goldfuss writes speculative fiction which reviewers have called “rich,” “intense,” “complex,” and “rather grim.” Recent work has won the Brave New Weird award and appeared in The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy. Goldfuss lives in the Pacific Northwest with stacks of tea and carnivorous plants.
The Fall Author Series is co-sponsored by Spoke & Word Books. Special thanks to the Friends of the Ledding Library for providing the funding that makes this program possible.

About the Little Town That Could:
Ordinary people are building an emissions-free future in the Hudson Valley community of Croton-on-Hudson, NY; one heat pump, solar installation, electric school bus — and much more — at a time. Croton has been recognized as New York State’s #1 Clean Energy Community. Croton100, a climate group, celebrates their little town’s decarbonizing momentum with a series of beautifully crafted quilts depicting sustainability actions by government, businesses, public facilities and households. Clackamas County Braver Angels
Braver Angeles is a national movement staffed by volunteers at the local level. The driving mission of this movement is to bring people together to bridge the partisan divide while strengthening our democratic republic. It envisions an America with respectful embrace of political disagreements, where civic friendship flourishes, and competing perspectives strengthen us.
Conversations in these gatherings value respect, humility, honesty, and responsibility. The goal is not to change people’s views of issues, but to change their views of each other. Volunteers hope these conversations help to overcome the various division (rural/urban, liberal/ conservative, red/blue) in Clackamas County to build stronger community.
Hosted by: Clackamas County Braver Angels members. For more information, contact Michael Balter, Ambassador, [email protected]
