Belated Beethoven: featuring pianist Yoko Greeney
Itâs never too late to celebrate Beethoven! The Beaverton Symphony Orchestra presents Belated Beethoven, featuring the dramatic Coriolan Overture, the lyrical and powerful Piano Concerto No. 3 with soloist Yoko Greeney, and the elegant and exuberant Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major. Beethovenâs 250th birthday was supposed to be a worldwide celebration, but 2020 had other plans. Seven years later, weâre finally making up for lost time. As we mark the 200th anniversary of his death on March 26, 2027, the BSO finally has the perfect excuse to celebrate a composer whose music continues to inspire audiences around the world. Making her first appearance with the Beaverton Symphony Orchestra, pianist Yoko Greeney joins the BSO for Beethovenâs Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor. Described by Oregon ArtsWatch as âone of the most significant members of Portlandâs classical music scene,â Greeneyâs artistry and deep connection to the region make her an exciting addition to this special Beethoven celebration. After seven years of waiting, itâs time to give Beethoven the celebration he never got in 2020. Join the BSO and pianist Yoko Greeney for an evening of Beethovenâs musicâbelated, perhaps, but certainly worth the wait.
Amy Beachâs Gaelic Symphony THYAC Winners Perform!
Presenting the winners of the Travis Hatton Young Artist Competition! Three finalists are selected from dozens of local student musicians at the THYAC recital in February to perform with full orchestra. The selected concerto performances will be the centerpiece of this season finale concert, framed by two powerful works from the Romantic era: Richard Wagnerâs stirring Overture to Tannhäuser and Amy Beachâs sweeping âGaelicâ Symphony. Last seasonâs performance of American composer Howard Hansonâs Symphony No. 2 was met with such a positive response, Music Director Pierre-Alain Chevalier decided to feature another American composer for this seasonâs finale. Beachâs âGaelicâ is a landmark work by one of the earliest major American symphonists and the first American woman to have her symphony performed by a major orchestra. While inspired by Gaelic musical traditions, Beachâs symphony is rooted in the expressive language of the Romantic era, offering music that audiences of all kinds can enjoy. The Travis Hatton Young Artist Competition is always a highlight of the Beaverton Symphony Orchestraâs season, both for its musicians and its audience. Donât miss the chance to hear the next generation of exceptional local talent take the stage with your Beaverton Symphony Orchestra.
