WeBike WTFNB+ Gear Swap

🚨 Newsflash: Not a ride, but an indoor event!

  • Organizer: WeBike
  • Schedule: Come and go anytime between 6-8 p.m.
  • Location Details: Secure indoor bike parking is provided.
  • Audience: General (all ages)

WeBike events are for women, trans, and non-binary folks. This includes but is not limited to trans men, trans women, cis women, agender, gender queer, gender fluid, gender nonconforming, and Two Spirit people. Read more about WeBike: thestreettrust.org/webike

Interested in doing more on-the-bike adventures, but feeling limited by not having the right gear? OR, are you sitting on way too much gear that doesn’t really fit your needs? Well then, do we have the event for you!

Join us Monday, November 23 for a WeBike gear swap! Attendees are invited (but not required) to bring gently used gear to swap with fellow WeBikers. This can be whatever you think others might get use out of – bike camping gear and bike bags, commuting gear (panniers, rain clothes, etc.), cycling apparel, and more. If you don’t have any gear to contribute, we still want you there! Some of our amazing community partners have donated gear and helmets that we’ll contribute to the Gear Swap Pot. Plus, all leftover gear will be donated to our friends at Bike Farm. Win-win!

We’ll have bubbly water and light snacks to share, and attendees are welcome to bring more potluck-style snacks if that’s your jam. We’ll do it open-house style, so feel free to come and go whenever works for you during the event’s 6-8 p.m. window.

About WeBike:

WeBike is The Street Trust’s program to inspire more trans people of all genders, gender non-conforming people, Two Spirit, and women (both trans and cis) to incorporate a bike into their lives and use biking as a way to meet their transportation needs and personal goals. We aim to dismantle the barriers of cycling through rides, knowledge-sharing events, meet and greets, and mentorship. The WeBike-Portland private Facebook group is a resource, hub, and a way to connect with others riding in the area. If you have any questions about biking or great biking tips you want to share, post them there!

Find WeBike events on our Linktree, The Street Trust events calendar and shared to the WeBike Instagram, @webikepdx

Great Pumpkin Toss

There are a number of ways you can dispose of your Halloween pumpkin - you can put it in your compost pile, you can put it in your yard debris container for curbside collection, or... you can toss it off the training tower at the Westlake Fire Station!

The Last Waltz: 50 Years Later

🚨 Newsflash: AN IDEA FOR A RIDE

  • Organizer: Gillum the Stoor
  • Schedule: Actual time TBD (not necessarily 3pm)
  • Audience: General (all ages)

On November 25, 1976 (Thanksgiving Day), the Band held a farewell concert at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. It was The Last Waltz.

Besides The Band, the concert featured their former employers, Ronnie Hawkins and Bob Dylan, as well as Paul Butterfield, Bobby Charles, Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Emmylou Harris, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, the Staple Singers, Ringo Starr, Muddy Waters, Ronnie Wood, and Neil Young.

The Last Waltz was filmed by Martin Scorsese who made a documentary film with the same name that came out in 1978. It is considered one of the greatest concert films ever made.

I have to admit that I never saw the film until recently, but with the 50th anniversary coming, I decided that I needed to have a look. It is truly a fine record of rock and other popular music in the mid 1970s and a showcase for the Band itself. (I admit also that I had previously known only their most popular songs.)

This year, November 25 is the day before Thanksgiving. I know that is busy day for many people, but I still think that it would be fitting to commemorate the 50th anniversary in a celebratory bike ride.

I do not have a speaker or trailer or any way to play music during a ride. That is why this is only "an idea for a ride". If this idea inspires you (and especially if you have a way to bring music to a ride), please reach out and let me know. If it doesn't work out, I can always stay home (or go somewhere else - my wife doesn't like the music) and watch the movie again. (I have the Blu-ray!)

Exact time is, of course, flexible, as are starting location, length, etc.

Verboort Sausage Festival

  • Organizer: Cameron Bennett
  • Schedule: Meet at 8am, ride at 8:30am
  • Ride Length: 15+ miles
  • End Location: The scheduled portion of the ride will end at the sausage fest. Stick with the group to roll to the Hatfield (Hillsboro) MAX station after dinner, or ride home when you've had enough to eat and drink.
  • Location Details: Meet under the picnic shelter by the basketball courts
  • Audience: Adults (21+)

Would you ride in the rain for all-you-can-eat bratwurst? Let's enjoy some rolling (and likely rainy) miles to Verboort; the all-you-can eat dinner tastes way better if you ride there!

GETTING THERE
Meet at the Wallace Park picnic shelter near the basketball courts. Gather at 8am, departing at 8:30am - can't be too late to dinner. Pace will be spirited enough to stay warm but slow enough to not show up too sweaty. There will be a few regroup/snack breaks at the top of the climbs, as shown on the route.

THE ROUTE
Please be aware that there are some significant hills on this route, and we will be far from TriMet service at times. While this is a no-drop ride, you are expected to be self-sufficient! Bring enough layers and calories to keep yourself happy and healthy for the conditions. There are short sections of busy roads on route, but it is generally pretty low-traffic. There is a short section of gravel since it's the nicest way to get over the hill; you will be able to ride it on any type of bike.

Bring a lock, lights, rain gear, and some cash! Fenders are appreciated :)

THE SAUSAGE FESTIVAL
Dinner is $23, and there will be a wait to eat after we arrive. Luckily, there's a beer garden to pass the time in... There will be sauerkraut and sausage for sale. Make sure you've got the stomach and cargo capacity to take advantage of it all!

https://www.verboort.org/dinner

GETTING HOME
Worried about riding home? ...trust us, the MAX is the better option. We'll roll out as a group and keep the pace easy on our full tummies.

Tigard Free Food Market (age 15+) Referral

Join us at our monthly Tigard Free Food Markets! The Free Food Market is our food pantry event on the first Monday of each month where we provide food to community members in need each month. These events are free to the public and barrier free - which means we do not ask for participant info when they come to get food. The door opens at 1:30pm for community members to come in and receive food. We need volunteers the day of event: -We need 4 volunteers in the morning shift to help with processing the donated food, dividing the produces into small portions, setting them up on tables, event set up, etc. -We need 5 volunteers in the afternoon shift to help with distributing food to community members, crowd control, event break down and clean up, etc. The ODHS mission is to help Oregonians in their own communities achieve well-being and independence through opportunities that protect, empower, respect choice, and preserve dignity. The dedication of volunteers plays a vital role in our work, helping the agency fulfill its mission and achieve its goals for Oregonians. Your support strengthens our impact, allowing us to better serve the community and make a meaningful difference. Volunteers will gain knowledge about how ODHS helps community members in need and what they can do if they'd like to help at other food pantries in the area. They will also learn about day-of-event coordination skills. Opportunity Requirements: Volunteers must be 15 years of age or older to participate in this opportunity; any volunteer under age 18 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone. Click on "Express Interest" below if you are interested in helping out! **This is a Referral Opportunity, which means it is run directly by one of our nonprofit partners. Once you express interest, someone from the partner organization should follow up with you shortly to discuss confirming you as a volunteer for this opportunity. **Please note, your hours may not be recorded in your Hands On Greater Portland account since this is a partner-managed opportunity.

Ride Westside Fix-a-Flat Clinic

🚨 Newsflash: Not a ride

  • Organizer: Mick for Ride Westside
  • Audience: General (all ages)

Don’t let a flat tire cut your ride short! Join Ride Westside for a hands-on clinic and learn how to repair a bicycle inner-tube puncture with a patch kit.

We’ll walk through finding the cause of a flat, removing the wheel and tube, locating and patching the puncture, and putting everything back together. You’ll have time to practice, ask questions, and learn what to carry in a compact repair kit.

No previous repair experience is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to give it a try. Leave feeling more confident handling a flat while you’re out riding.

This clinic focuses on conventional inner tubes. Tubeless tires and some e-bike wheels may require different procedures.

Gift Wrap Swap at Kindred

Unroll your extra wrapping paper, ribbons, and gift bags—let’s share the festive abundance!

Got half-used rolls of wrapping paper? A stash of gift bags too nice to toss? Bring your clean, reusable wrapping supplies and trade them for something new-to-you. Whether you’re a minimalist brown-paper-and-twine fan or a glitter-everything enthusiast, this swap is your chance to wrap sustainably (and save some cash during the spendiest season).

How it works: Bring gift wrap, tissue paper, ribbons, tags, or gift boxes (in good condition—no crumpled wads, please). Take what you need—no trade required! Swap tips on zero-waste wrapping (or just admire each other’s stash).

Why swap? Cut waste—keep paper and bags circulating instead of trashed. Save money—because gifts inside the wrapping matter more. Share the joy—community > consumerism, always.

No fees, no fuss—just guilt-free festive prep.

Make Sack Lunches for Individuals Experiencing Homelessness (age 6+) Referral

Each year, Transition Projects assists over 10,000 people experiencing homelessness. Roughly half of Portlanders experiencing homelessness are currently unsheltered. Our Navigation Team seeks to engage people where they are, build trust, and help make connections to needed support services. Sack lunches provide a healthy meal and help build connections. Volunteers will be asked to bring items to contribute to the sack lunches and the group will prepare 50-100 sack lunches to be given out by our Navigation Team to individuals currently unhoused. You will be assigned what items to bring. Bring your food items and work alongside other volunteers to make sack lunches including PB&J sandwiches, fruit, and snacks. We're counting on you! It is imperative that if you sign up for this project, you intend to be there and provide the ingredients that are assigned to you. When volunteers don't show up, we're not able to prepare the sack lunches. If you are unable to attend, please let us know ASAP! Please note: no volunteer will be turned away due to lack of resources. If bringing a food item is a hardship for you, please let us know. Opportunity Requirements: Volunteers must be 6 years of age or older to participate in this opportunity; any volunteer under age 16 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone. Click on "Express Interest" below if you are interested in helping out! **This is a Referral Opportunity, which means it is run directly by one of our nonprofit partners. Dead Baby November Ride- Backpack's bodacious birthday bash!

  • Organizer: Backpack 🎒
  • Schedule: Ride Meets at 8pm, Leaves at 9pm.
  • Ride Length: 8-15 miles
  • End Location: Only one way to find out... come on the ride
  • Location Details: Probably hanging in the back patio / out front.
  • Audience: Adults (21+)

Free exclusive sticker for anyone who attends! (this will be the only way to get this sticker!)

Yo it's Backpack, I am leading the DBBC club ride for November because it's right around my birthday. It'll be pretty chill pace, accessible to all bicycles (feel free to ride a freak bike if you have one). It should be a relatively easy route (classic three stops: park -> store -> end). Ending with a campfire, free stickers, should be a good time. Bring your friends, bring your grandma, bring your dog. It will likely be chilly, so dress warm / pack layers. Be respectful to other riders! If a rando is being a weird let someone in the club know!

I am hoping to facilitate a casual game of mumblety-peg at the end spot. If you are unfamiliar with the game there's be no obligation to play.
Thank you, hope to see you at the ride!

Start spot: THE RAT - Rose and Thistle Pub House 2417 NE Broadway
Ride meets at 8pm on 11/7
Ride leaves at 9pm
