Few foods inspire the kind of irrational devotion like a good hot dog. Chef Farideh Sadeghin is bringing The Hot Dog Cookbook: 50 Recipes for the World’s Best Food to life with a special afternoon collaboration featuring some of the Rose City’s favorite chefs. Farideh will be joined by Peter Cho of Han Oak, Mika Paredes of L’Echelle, and Chef Sam Smith, each creating their own take on the hot dog inspired by recipes from The Hot Dog Cookbook.
Guests will enjoy samples of one hot dog from each chef, and a welcome cocktail.
Hang out and meet Farideh, Mika, Peter, and Sam. Bring your copy of the book or purchase one onsite to have it signed.

Let’s spend a Sunday doing some good and getting to know each other along the way! Join our 30s & 40s Singles Group to support athletes at Special Olympics Oregon’s Beaverton Regional Aquatics competition on Sunday, November 1.
Expect swimming, teamwork, plenty of cheering, and a chance to connect with other community-minded singles. The event coordinator is excited to have our group help!
We have two exciting ways to participate based on how involved you want to be.
🙌 Path 1: Come volunteer directly with us
No sports knowledge, athletic ability, or previous volunteer experience needed. The Special Olympics Oregon team will train you onsite and assign your role at check-in.
You might help with:
Have relevant experience? Let the team know at check-in!
You can choose between a full-day shift of about 8–9 hours or a half-day shift of about 4–4.5 hours, depending on availability.
All volunteers receive a Special Olympics Oregon T-shirt, and full-day volunteers receive lunch.
📝 How to join as a volunteer
Please register promptly if you’d like to volunteer, since shifts have limited spaces. Follow the arrival and check-in instructions for your selected shift.
💛 A small commitment that makes a big difference
The event team relies on registered volunteers to keep the competition running smoothly. Please choose a shift you can commit to attending in full and plan ahead for the day.
Of course, unexpected things happen! If you can no longer volunteer, please notify the Special Olympics coordinator promptly, update your volunteer registration, and update your Meetup RSVP too. Keeping everyone informed as timely as possible gives the team time to adjust.
📣 Path 2: Prefer to cheer? Join the audience!
You can also support the athletes from the sidelines. If committing to volunteering in a shift isn’t the right fit, or the shifts have filled, come enjoy the competition and help us give the swimmers an enthusiastic audience!
Please let me know whether you’re volunteering or coming to cheer, so I can coordinate our group. Only people registered directly with Special Olympics Oregon will be counted as volunteers.
Which ever path you choose, we’re happy to have you!
Come lend a hand, bring your cheering voice, and spend a Sunday supporting our greater Portland community. 💛
Join an evening where chefs, winemakers, and farmers come together to share the harvest — an evening of food, land, and community unfolding beneath an open sky. Guests will rotate in small groups to taste a dish and wine pairing developed by three chefs and three winemakers from the roster of TASTE's past partners in three different settings around the estate. Then, come together for dessert and celebration during the golden hour program, culminating with dancing under the stars.
Supporting Adelante Mujeres means investing in the Latine community to cultivate opportunity, leadership, and resilience — strengthening the roots that help communities rise together. In addition to Adelante Mujeres, proceeds from this year's TASTE for Equity Event Series also benefit two additional powerful Portland organizations: APANO, uniting Asian and Pacific Islanders to build power and advance equity, and ELSO Inc., cultivating generations of innovators and problem solvers for local and global impact.
Party bus transportation from a central location in Portland will be offered to all guests for an additional cost at the time of checkout when you purchase your ticket. Please join and extend the evening of fun, and make sure you get home safely.
Seats are limited, and this event will sell out. If you’ve been to a TASTE event before, you know. If this is your first time — welcome. This table was made for you. Tickets are 75-$250 on a sliding scale. Lower-priced tickets are reserved for those working in the F&B service industry.
Ghost Show! is the story of a group of people who have found themselves at the lowest point in their lives — making a low-budget ghost hunting show that’s in last place in the local ratings. But an accidental death (is she dead, though?) leads to a boost in engagement…and a whole new set of problems. Filmed both behind the scenes and as in-universe episodes of the show, Ghost Show! is all about failure, found family, and trying to make meaning out of the ghosts of the past — and future.
Join the Tiny Park Productions team at Twilight Theater for the launch party of the pilot reading of Ghost Show! Not only will you see and hear the first official reading of the pilot script, but you’ll also get to enjoy fun, spooky-season-themed activities and treats — think of it as a theatrical carnival.
There will also be a costume contest with Door Prizes, so Halloween costumes are encouraged.
Tickets include a free raffle ticket. Prizes include real ghost-hunting gear.

One Grand Gallery is delighted to welcome back Portland-based Ashley Anson for her second solo exhibition with the gallery. Home Sweet Home expounds on Anson’s fondness for found textiles and materials and processes historically associated with feminine domestic labor. Drawing on traditionally gendered art forms such as quilting and embroidery, she combines textiles with painting and small sculpture to create narratives about the unseen worlds within people’s homes. Home is central to her work, a place that can hold peace, chaos, and danger all at once.
Anson transforms personal family folklore into layered narratives, exploring how stories imagined in childhood are remembered, exaggerated, and reinterpreted across generations. Her work also examines gender roles in art, asking what gives a painting masculine or feminine attributes and whether an artist’s gender can be sensed in the work. By combining the historically male-dominated practice of painting with embroidery and textiles, she challenges conventional distinctions between artistic mediums.
Join the opening reception on Friday, Oct. 30 from 6- 9 p.m. In the spirit of the Halloween season, the opening will transition into a party as the evening approaches. Costumes are strongly encouraged.

What to expect:
DANCE MODE: FAMILY RAVE 🌈✨
For years, rave parents have had to choose — leave the dance community behind, or leave the kids at home. We don't think that should be a choice.
Dance Mode brings the floor to the whole family. We believe the next generation deserves to grow up inside this culture — to learn PLUR (Peace ✌️, Love ❤️, Unity 🌍, Respect 🙏) not as a slogan, but as something they felt with you, on the floor, holding your hand.
This isn't just a party. It's a chance to bond with your kids over the same music, lights, and connection that shaped you — and pass it down.
WHAT TO EXPECT
🦄 The Flow: We open with a 30-minute warm-up — simple movement together, getting comfortable in the space as a family. From there we build into higher-energy dancing on the main floor. We close with a 30-minute cool-down, where we come back together and acknowledge the dance community we're building.
🎵 The Music: A curated DJ set that mixes kid favorites right alongside grown-up House and EDM classics — curated for the mixed crowd, with something for everyone on the floor.
🎨 Activities: Sparkly face painting with gems, plus a kandi-making station — everyone can make one bracelet for themselves and one to share, a hands-on way for kids to learn Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect and what it means to pass those values to others.
🧘 Sensory Refuge Room: A quiet space on-site for kids (or adults) who need a break from the sound and lights, with coloring and fidgets.
🎧 Forgot your sensory headphones? We've got a limited quantity for sale at the merch table.
🍕 Food & Drinks: Available for purchase on-site.
👗 What to Wear: However you feel most comfortable moving — costumes, rave gear, sweats, whatever works for you and your kids 😊

91.5% of first dates suck purely because of awkward, dull, boring conversations. Conversational Lube is here to FIX that.
You’re invited to the first real-time, live comedy dating show. Singles will be matched, meet for the first time, then join a comedian on stage (the lube) to have a first date. Yes, audience members will be put on blind dates in real time at the show. That means you, yes, you can come and possibly find your soul mate. (Or at the very least go home with a funny af story.)
Each couple will have a date on the stage and be joined by a licensed professional* (*fully unlicensed comedian) to lube up the conversation, make sure it flows, stays entertaining, and fully capitalize on any weird shit that comes up. (The last part mostly for the sake of the audience and laughs.)
Hosted by stand-up comedian and writer, Cait Chock, who is single for many reasons but not because she can’t dazzle a first conversation. She shines in a first impression, then actively decays like a free radical. She’s a lost cause, but she’s using her conversational skills to help you find love.
No guarantee that you'll find love, but it's guaranteed it will be a helluva lot more fun than another boring and slightly deranged Tinder meet-up. ALL are welcome, even you monsters already happily in love, can come, eat, drink, laugh, and watch everyone else squirm. Apps suck. Approaching strangers in the wild is scary. Hitting on your Trader Joe’s cashier is not cool. A comedy show is your best bet.
Don’t settle for shitty, boring, vanilla conversations…apply conversational lube.
Join a day of sipping and celebrating with tea friends. Special guests from Enthea, Teazen, Ocha, and Aishang will be stopping by throughout the day. Enjoy delicious pastries from Miss Orange and friends, along with crafts, giveaways, and plenty of surprises.

End the evening with Charlie Sebastian Short for a Sound Bath Meditation, a peaceful way to close out a day of tea, friendship, and celebration. Space is limited for the Sound Bath.
No admission fee, just an open invitation to spend the day enjoying tea.
Free All-Day Tea Party.

Together, they enlisted the help of their fellow Pee-wee afficionados, prolific publisher and dynamic graphic artist, Jared Prophet, the noted artist, deejay, and event creator, Matt Stanger, and The Photobooth Chick, herself, Jocelyn Dean. FULL SPECTRUM is a group exhibition of Portland XR artists at Daydreamer Coffee and Public House in St. Johns, opening November 7 and running through the holidays. The framing: just as a prism reveals the colors hidden inside light, these artists use immersive technology to surface the hidden layers of the human heart. Visitors explore the work through phones, VR headsets, and AR glasses, so the show is as much about the viewing apparatus as it is about the images. The organizers treat technology as a way to amplify human expression rather than replace it, and the exhibition doubles as a growth effort for the Portland immersive community. Sponsored by Specs and the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication Reality Lab in Portland. Opening night party at 7315 N Fessenden S https://luma.com/7v1f7buz

Speed Dating Tonight!
Music & Libretto by Michael Ching
Based on a concept by Dean Anthony
Portland State University’s Opera program kicks off its 50th anniversary season with Michael Ching’s “Speed Dating Tonight!” (2013). Set over the course of a single evening at a local bar, this clever, heartwarming opera follows a revolving cast of singles searching for that elusive spark. There's the dreamer, the hopeless romantic, the bashful, the over-sharer, the chronically distracted, and everyone in between, each getting their moment in the spotlight through music that is equal parts tender, heartbreaking, and hilarious.
Written with duets and ensembles for up to 45 voices, “Speed Dating Tonight!” has a flexible modular structure that can be customized to fit any cast size, voice type, or gender identity. PSU Opera’s version of “Speed Dating Tonight!” features 35 song selections and arrangements specifically chosen to reflect the unique assortment of voices in the 12-member cast.
At its heart, this is a show about the universal human longing to be seen and cherished by another person. Woven through the interactions is another question: can a genuine connection actually happen in five minutes or less? With Michael Ching’s delightful opera, the answer is decidedly yes.
Visit the Speed Dating Tonight! web page to learn more about this production, including additional dates, cast and crew information, photos, and more as we get closer to opening night.
