Tryon Land Tending (age 14+) Referral
Volunteer Opportunity Help build the health and resilience of the urban forest at Tryon Creek. About the Program Our mission, in partnership with Oregon State Parks, is to inspire every community to identify, cultivate or reclaim their relationship with nature in this cherished urban forest. About the Project Depending on the season, Friends staff lead volunteers in removing ivy growing up mature trees, digging up blackberry along the ground, or planting and caring for new native trees and shrubs near the creek. Volunteers are a key part in our efforts to enhance the overall health and resilience of the urban forest and community. Volunteer activities include hiking 1-2 miles from the Nature Center to the current project location, and using hand tools like clippers and shovels. Instructions, gloves, supervision, and tools are provided (feel free to bring your own gloves). Learn about how to care for public natural areas, native and introduced plant identification, tool use and techniques.
