Doomsday a MF Doom Art show

Unspoken140 Northwest 4th Avenue

Doomsday is an MF Doom-themed group art exhibition celebrating the life, legacy, music, and unmistakable visual identity of one of hip-hop’s most influential and mysterious artists. Presented in partnership with Unspoken and More Than February Art Gallery, the exhibition brings together a diverse group of artists working across painting, illustration, sculpture, design, fashion, and mixed media to reinterpret the world of MF Doom through their own creative lens.

Timed around the anniversary of Doom's passing, Doomsday is both a tribute and a celebration—honoring an artist whose impact extended far beyond music. From the iconic metal mask and comic-book-inspired mythology to his intricate lyricism, production, and independent spirit, MF Doom created a universe that continues to inspire artists, musicians, designers, and fans around the world.

The exhibition will feature original artwork and special installations inspired by Doom, including sculpture, collectible objects, apparel, prints, collaborative pieces, and one-of-a-kind interpretations of the mask and character. Guests will also be able to experience interactive elements including an MF Doom-inspired photo booth, music, merchandise, raffles, and special collaborations created specifically for the exhibition. At its core, Doomsday is about bringing together art, hip-hop, community, and independent creativity while giving artists a space to celebrate a cultural figure whose influence remains deeply present.

These Stones Remain: Sacred Masterworks from Tudor England

the tudor choir
+ doug fullington

Tudor England (c1485–1603) was deeply unstable — yet monuments of its Latin sacred music survived, including the Sarum rite chant used before the Reformation. This chant formed the basis of devotional works by Taverner, Sheppard, Fayrfax, and Tye. It appears directly in several pieces on this program — among them Sheppard’s deeply moving Libera nos, whose chant melody is shown here. This music is inseparable too from the stone abbeys and cathedrals it was made to fill. These Stones Remain restores these masterworks to their spiritual home, performed by the Northwest’s own Tudor Choir.

One Nation

Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education724 Northwest Davis Street

One Nation brings together contemporary artists who explore the ideals and contradictions embedded in the American promise. Drawing on the national motto E Pluribus Unum — “Out of Many, One” — the exhibition reflects on how a diverse society strives toward unity while confronting social, political, and cultural divisions.

Across painting, photography, sculpture, textile, and mixed media, the artists consider themes central to American civic life: immigration and belonging, protest and dissent, labor and economic justice, religious freedom, racial inequality, and the enduring power of democratic ideals.

Personal histories and collective memory intersect throughout the exhibition. Portraits of leaders and everyday citizens appear alongside symbolic images of journeys, borders, and shared responsibility. Together, these works ask viewers to consider not only what unites Americans, but also what challenges the nation’s commitment to liberty and justice, and invites reflection on the role individuals and communities play in shaping the country’s future.

How We Show Up: Oregon Jews in Civil Society

Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education724 Northwest Davis Street

What does civic participation look like? How do communities shape the places where they live? How We Show Up explores the many ways Jews in Oregon have participated in public life—from building towns and holding office in the nineteenth century to advocating for civil rights, immigrant communities, and social justice in the decades that followed. Drawing from the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education’s collections, the exhibition traces a long tradition of civic engagement shaped by leadership, service, and advocacy.

Visitors will encounter stories of early Jewish mayors who helped establish towns across Oregon, women who organized networks of social welfare and immigrant support, and lawyers, activists, and community leaders who worked to expand civil rights and democratic participation. The exhibition also examines moments of tension and contradiction, exploring the limits of acceptance and the complexities of minority politics.

Presented as part of the national America 250 commemoration, How We Show Up reflects on the ongoing work of democracy. Through photographs, documents, and personal stories, the exhibition invites visitors to consider how communities participate in civic life—and how each generation chooses to show up.

OJMCHE Book Club

Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education724 Northwest Davis Street

OJMCHE’s book club meets every other month midday at the museum. The book selection for November 2026 is The Mathematician’s Shiva by Stuart Rojstaczer.

Stuart Rojstaczer’s The Mathematician’s Shiva is a humorous, bittersweet debut novel about family that brilliantly captures humanity’s drive to not only survive, but to solve the impossible.

Alexander “Sasha” Karnokovitch and his family would like to mourn the passing of his mother, Rachela, with modesty and dignity. But Rachela, a famous Polish émigré mathematician and professor at the University of Wisconsin, is rumored to have solved the million-dollar Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize problem. Rumor also has it that she took the solution to her grave out of spite. To Sasha’s chagrin, a ragtag group of socially challenged mathematicians arrives in Madison and crashes the shiva, vowing to do whatever it takes to find the solution — even if it means prying up the floorboards for Rachela’s notes.

The Island of Misfit Toys: Art Show Featuring Davis Wohlford

imperfecta gallery809 NW Flanders St

The Imperfecta Gallery, in collaboration with North Pole Studio, is proud to present The Island of Misfit Toys. This exhibition presents work by Portland-based artist Davis Wohlford. Every year, Davis Wohlford's art practice gives form to an evolving cast of handmade toys. Inspired by the fictional place of The Island of Misfit Toys, its characters occupy the margins of conventional narratives, finding possibility in their differences and agency in their own stories. Hand-sewn, machine-stitched, felted, painted and sculpted from wood and assembled from found objects, Davis's endlessly resourceful approach to materials yields creations that suggest personalities and histories beyond their physical forms. These are not simply objects to be observed; they are created to be played with, loved, and to inspire one's imagination. The toys welcome you to explore an alternate world of their own, an immersive world that Davis builds and shares with his audience. This year, that world expands into performance. Handcrafted puppets take the stage alongside a musical accompaniment, while familiar fairy tales are dismantled, reimagined, and given unexpected trajectories.

Opening Reception: November 5, 5–8 p.m.

Davis Wohlford is a prolific, lifelong artist and the co-founder of North Pole Studio. His work is deeply influenced by characters, stories, and fables that resonate with him and bring narratives to life through diverse media. Davis' works depict a vast array of interconnected characters and fantastical subjects who inhabit North Pole Jr., a self-constructed, multidimensional magical land that Davis has developed over time. His art is a window into this imaginative world, where whimsy and complexity coexist, and every piece is a chapter in an ongoing narrative. Davis is also deeply engaged in re-imagining classic books and movies, exploring playwriting, filmmaking, and animation. This multifaceted creative practice reflects Davis's belief in the power of storytelling as a means of both personal expression and universal connection. Whether through the visual richness of his paintings or the dynamic exploration of narrative in his written and filmed work, Davis Wohlford's art reflects his boundless imagination and his desire to craft worlds that invite others to explore and find meaning in the stories he creates.

Ordinary Magic: Looking for the Sacred in Everyday Life

imperfecta gallery809 NW Flanders St

The Imperfecta Gallery is proud to present Ordinary Magic. This exhibition presents work by Portland artist Diane Archer. The work in this show explores the physical and emotional aspects of place through the lenses of Deep Ecology and Bioregionalism. A practice of looking for the sacred in everyday life also informs Archer's work. By combining maps, images, natural elements, found objects, and personal relics, the artist creates meaningful, layered mixed-media assemblages. Feathers, seeds, flowers, bones, stones and household objects become visual representations of moments in time and particular spaces, along with the epiphanies that result. Ordinary Magic is a state of mind; a sense of wonder. The ordinary is extraordinary if we take the time to look closely and with curiosity. A nest, rose, snail shell or handful of acorns can be talismans that tell stories or invoke memories. A collection of objects can become a kind of personal map of a place, person or time.

As Diane explains, "the act of gathering, arranging, layering, and preserving these materials prolongs my focus and attention. Each piece begins with its frame, where I arrange layers of maps and images I've collected to match the moment and place. The topographical and aeronautical maps might be altered, copied, enlarged and/or stained with homemade dyes. Next, images and words are either drawn or transferred onto the maps. Found objects are then carefully embedded into the surface (sometimes in vials or specimen cases). The finished work is coated with several layers of acrylic glaze to protect fragile surfaces."

In her work, Diane Archer states that the most important issue of this time is seeing the world and everything in it as an interconnected whole, of which the human species is but one small part. As she puts it: "I want the work in this show to encourage a way of looking at the world so that the beauty, mystery, and connection to ordinary magic appears all around us."

Opening Reception: Nov 5, 5–8 p.m.

Mixed media artist Diane Archer was born and spent her early life in Ohio, where she received a BFA from The University of Akron and an MFA from Kent State University. In 1999, a residency at the Sitka Center brought her west. She fell in love with the Pacific Northwest and decided to make Oregon her home. In 2007, Diane was interviewed for Oregon Art Beat and in 2023, her work was included in the Harvard Map Library Collections.

Ball Save Social Club Pinball Tournament

Introducing a new beginner-friendly monthly pinball tournament: Ball Save Social Club! Monthly on first Wednesdays.

The goal is to keep BSSC a casual space that boosts new players and further helps build the community. It’s also a place to highlight the skilled players in our community that are willing to share the secrets and take on a challenge. The tournament starts at 7:00 pm however if you are there at 6:00 pm and are a newer or lower skilled player the TD can find a higher skilled player to play some games with you to either teach rules or flipper skills.

Getting wrecked constantly can be exhausting and discouraging. So the difference with BSSC and other tournaments is the introduction of a handicap system. Inspired by bowling leagues and golf tournaments to help even the playing field and make it more fair. The format will be 4 games of a matchplay format with a one game final for the top 4.

Handicaps will be determined by player ratings in MatchPlay. Handicaps will be a percentage taken off of your score at the end of the game.

Expert: 40% off
A: 30% off
B: 15% off
C: 0% off
D, E and unrated: 0% off and can play one extra ball

Example with a score of 1,304, 216,800 this is what would count
Expert: 782,530,080 (1,304, 216,800 × 0.6)
A: 912,951,760 (1,304, 216,800 x 0.7)
B: 1,108,584,280 (1,304,216,800 x 0.85)
C: 1,304,216,800
D, E and unrated: 1,304,216,800 (plus an extra ball)

Sometimes an experimental format may happen!

CHANT ENCOUNTERS: These Stones Remain: Sacred Masterworks of Tudor England

Special Guest: Founder & Director Doug Fullington Tudor England (c1485–1603) was deeply unstable—yet monuments of its Latin sacred music survived, including the Sarum rite chant used before the Reformation. This chant formed the basis of devotional works by Taverner, Sheppard, Fayrfax, and Tye. It appears directly in several pieces on this program—among them Sheppard’s deeply moving Libera nos, whose chant melody is shown here. This music is inseparable too from the stone abbeys and cathedrals it was made to fill. These Stones Remain restores these masterworks to their spiritual home, performed by the Northwest’s own Tudor Choir.

About Book Selection for November Stuart Rojstaczer’s The Mathematician’s Shiva is a humorous, bittersweet debut novel about family that brilliantly captures humanity’s drive to not only survive, but to solve the impossible. Alexander “Sasha” Karnokovitch and his family would like to mourn the passing of his mother, Rachela, with modesty and dignity. But Rachela, a famous Polish émigré mathematician and professor at the University of Wisconsin, is rumored to have solved the million-dollar, Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize problem. Rumor also has it that she spitefully took the solution to her grave. To Sasha’s chagrin, a ragtag group of socially challenged mathematicians arrives in Madison and crashes the shiva, vowing to do whatever it takes to find the solution — even if it means prying up the floorboards for Rachela’s notes.
