How Fast-Growing Teams Hire

🌐OnlineVirtual Event

Some teams are hiring constantly. Dozens of roles a year, across functions that didn’t exist two years ago. Job descriptions have been rewritten, teams are smaller, and the bar is higher. Agentic tools have absorbed parts of some roles and created new ones, which makes evaluating a candidate harder than it used to be. In this session, two people who run that hiring every day walk through how they actually do it now. Speakers Tamika Bowman, Global Mobility at Tools for Humanity Tamika builds the programs that let fast-growing teams hire international talent and keep them. She has run immigration operations from the company side and the law firm side, including advising Electronic Arts’ talent mobility team. Melina Chervone, VP of Recruitment at micro1 Melina hires at high volume for roles that barely existed a few years ago, and she’s building micro1’s AI recruitment engine for finding and vetting talent worldwide. She came to recruiting through psychology and UX. Moderator Ashlee Drake Berry, Head of Legal at Casium Ashlee works with employers every day on when to sponsor, when to hire abroad, and what it takes to get it right. What we’ll cover – How a role gets scoped and leveled before it’s ever posted – Where the best candidates are coming from right now – What to look for when a résumé no longer tells you much – How to move fast without lowering the bar – Where international talent fits: when to sponsor, when to hire abroad, and what makes a candidate worth the extra steps Who this is for – People and talent leaders: see how peers run hiring at scale, and what holds up under volume. – HR, recruiters, and team leads: what to look for in a candidate now, and how roles are being redrawn. – Job seekers: how hiring decisions actually get made, and what makes someone worth the effort. Bring your questions. We’ll save time at the end for Q&A. Register: https://luma.com/9yjjsvct

NODES 2026: Engineering Better Intelligence (Neo4j)

🌐OnlineVirtual Event

NODES 2026 is Neo4j's free, 24-hour global online conference, running across every time zone on November 12. The program is aimed at developers, data professionals, architects and AI engineers, with sessions on modern application development, multi-agent workflows, graph-backed retrieval and building context-rich systems that hold up in production. Talks are grouped by experience level, so there are introductory sessions for people new to graph databases alongside deeper technical material on knowledge graphs, agent orchestration and graph analytics at scale. Because the event streams continuously for a full day, Pacific-time attendees can join sessions in the morning, over lunch or in the evening, and recordings are typically published afterward. Registration is free through the Neo4j eve https://neo4j.com/event/nodes-2026-engineering-better-intelligence/

Tax Basics for Creatives

🌐OnlineVirtual Event

A free virtual workshop from OVLA, the Oregon Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, covering the tax fundamentals that independent creative professionals most often get wrong. The session walks through tracking income across multiple clients and platforms, which expenses are actually deductible for a creative practice, how self-employment tax works and what it means for quarterly planning, and the recordkeeping habits that keep all of it manageable, plus strategies for staying organized year-round instead of scrambling in April. It is built for both newly self-employed creatives and established practitioners who have been improvising their bookkeeping for years. Registration is through oregonvla.org. Note that sessions are recorded and may be posted online, and registering constitutes consent to https://www.aigapdx.org/events/taxes-creatives

The Data Behind Agents: Building Intelligent, Safe, AI Systems

🌐OnlineVirtual Event

AI agents dominate current industry discussion, yet clear explanations of what they are, why they fail, and what roles they are creating remain scarce. This session offers a foundational introduction for students and early-career technologists. We’ll examine what distinguishes an agent from a conventional chatbot — tools, memory, and planning loops — and trace an agent through the completion of a realistic task. We then turn to the less-demonstrated half of the problem: the data an agent requires to be useful, and the boundaries it requires to be safe.
